Hi David,
Thanks for your comment, which you posted on Sept 19!
Apparently it takes a month for comments that contain URLs to post!? (today is Oct 19)
And now, as anticipated, duplicate posts from myself are also here. Although just showing up today, they appear in the correct time sequence as when submitted.
Guess I'll have to disguise the URLs in my comments!
Anyhow, yes, that was the image I had seen.
Thanks again, -Kes

hi, i am quite fond of this toning and have a few in my portfolio....i think in prefer the vignetted version best...has a storybook look and atmosphere....i also like that the patterns on their clothing are in contrast to the natural patterns around them...regards,gayle

Lovely composition... The sepia works very well here, as the frame by the trees.
Congratulations!!

Yes, I agree with your comment. That second shot I posted here was just experimental fun with Gimp.
I can't say for sure if I've seen Smith's shot of miners or not. Do you have a link for it? Thanks, Kes

Keseph, I think your original version worked very well in it's own rite. It wouldn't be as good if you tried copying Smith's photo too close. You have your own style in the original, and that is good. I think it's great getting inspiration from the real experts like Adams and Smith.
Have you seen Smith's photos of the coal miners? I'm sure you must have. I think they inspired many people to take shots of the "working man". Andre

Cute! Nice conversion...almost makes the woods look eerie so it's even more important to have a friend nearby. Nice job. I like the vignetted one the most.

Well thanks! I guess this one was a success, as Smith's shot was what I had in mind when I took this. I tried to use the branches to form that coming-out-of-the-dark look, but I didn't quite make it. Smith's photo was more backlit, I think, and the leaves/branches formed a silhouette around his kids. Of course he was also a master printer...
I put a link to Smith's photo in the "about" section.
Not to worry...a vignette I can do...

I found this on a UF forum:
"Q. If Your Post Doesn'T Show Up... If you include a URL in your post it may not immediately show up in the forum. This is deliberate. To prevent spamming posts containing URLs are hidden from all except moderators for prior approval. There's no need to post again, it will appear after a while if it's genuine (though maybe the URL might be removed if found inappropriate). "
Sooooo, if a bunch of identical comments show up by me, this is why. If so, I'll delete this photo and repost.
Thanks for your comments.
