Probably because it's about railroads; symbolic of going someplace better and the open road, open spaces, America!

I have no idea why this one generated so many comments, but I won't complain :)

Ina - nooo that was a tiny jpeg for the purposes of previewing it to you in this comment area - the RAW image is 5Mb and spectacularly detailed. Still, even theis little jpeg conveys a lot of the original RAW. I love RAW because one can do anything with it in processing as it's just exactly what comes off cam w/o any processing whatsoever.

Thanks Anthony - I'm very happy that I've inspired you with all these oldies. There's a lot of good textures in that one. That's in RAW, eh? As my Canon's being repaired as we speak, I'm tweaking my 4MP jpegs from the FZ-10. Not much room to play here...

Thanks again, Alex. I'm a bit overwhelmed by the compliments, I have tens of thousands of pictures, don't know what to put up here - one a day. It's nice to get such great feedback. Very much appreciated!

Ina, what a superb picture, but then that is your style, one is better that the others and so it goes on and on. But this is one is just beyond anything imaginable, an absolute masterpiece! A humbling experience...crisp and fresh, how real... Alex

Thanks Paul. I'm considering becoming a donor, but I'm already a "donor" at a number of sites, LOL. I'll see... Usefilm is great, though. Such instant gratification, I mean, where else can you get that? I'm also eyeing a 20D... Congrats on your winning that prize.

I see! I cld tell u were an accomplished photographer straightaway! I'd normally pooh pooh image stabilization and whatnot, but in this case I'll eat my hat. 5771 is now on my favourites list and it was so easy to add it :)

Hi Anthony, This was handheld, as most of my shots are, even for wildlife at 300mm +. I'm an ex-Minolta SLR user, present-day Canon DRebel user, but my Canon died on this trip and I always carry a Panasonic FZ-10 fixed lens back-up. It has image stabilization :-) which really helps!

BTW - that was a slow shutter speed for the crispness you got - did you use a tripod?

Thanks Gust@vo for your nice comments! I could title it "5771" but I have more than one picture with this railcar No. 5771, it's one of a series. I was visiting Death Valley and found a great site with old train cars, old farm machinery, etc. in California. I could have stayed there hours and hours. I love all things with "patina." Thanks for your kind attention.

Ina - THAT is an incredibly nice shot - tactile textures and gradations of the wood and metal and paint combine to make your capture irresistable in every way. I also love the liminous exposure. Fabulous and very well done indeed :)
