Hi George-

The following is not about Magnus' work, the topic just happened here.

I am not opposed to digital mats and frames per se. I simply think it is difficult to use them to good advantage on UF, there is not enough space in the display area for one thing. Sometimes a mat or frame helps an image here on UF, but the great majority of the time, I think not. All too often non-image dark lines against the white backgound simply pull a viewer's attention away from the subject matter. That said, I kinda like the floating of a photograph off the background with a diffuse shadow. It separates the work from UF's "gallery wall", so it has just the opposite effect by helping to keep a viewer's gaze on the photograph. Maybe in time I'll get used to www style gallery mats and frames. Meanwhile, there is, no doubt, a reason why art has been framed for hundreds of years with generous sized, bottom-weighted (wider at the bottom) mats.

Cheers
sammy

FYI I have made the suggestion to UF admins that users be able to choose the display area's hue and tone.

Hi, Sammy--Don't like mats and frames, eh? You're absolutely right not to use them in your work. Some people think that used well they can enhance the effect and the impact of their images. Magnus obviously thinks that way, and he just might have a point. ;-) All the best . . . --George

Who can resist that face? Her pose and expression are perfect, and the capture, composition and presentation superb.

All the best,

Really an amazing capture, Magnus...rich and gritty, just the way I love it. He looks so tiny and helpless. Wonderful composition.

The b&w let everything more real to me! I dont know how to explain, but I fell this way! Is more dramatic... Congrats for the wonderful work that you make.

You're a fabulous photographer Magnus. I realize you don't talk to me, but I'm gonna comment once again. You don't need all those frames around your images. If you must mat a picture, make the mat bigger. Give equal space around all sides, except the bottom, which should be a little wider than the others.

May I pour you a wodka ...?
