Great shot! I like a lot long exposure photos and as I can see you have a lot.
Well done,
Michalis

Comment for your next photo - which is busted at the moment...

Your photographs have the nuttiest angles from the wide angle lens. I really enjoy the filter treatments and tones, but especially these crazy titles...

I like the grain and the unique toning on this photograph. Looks like you have a little bit of a twist blur around the Puma shoes though. Maybe the hand held shot had a longer exposure indoors.

Nice border - feels like a polariod transfer or straight negative transfer.
Perhaps the title should be "Pumamama"?

So graphic I can feel the sand under my toes, and I am shading my eyes from the harsh light as I make my way to the surf. Incredibly effective, Kostas! ...Brad

hello Matej :-)

the extra exposure time i give to the film has nothing to do with its ISO rating/sensitivity - it is just a way to 'correct' its behaviour in long exposures, and as long as this 'adjustment' takes place at shooting time theres no need to do something during the development.

'push / pull processing' is a different story - in this case you choose to expose the film at a different than its nominal speed and this requires development adjustments.

for example, if you have chosen to treat the 200ASA film in your camera as being an 800ASA one (pushed 2 stops) and you go out to shoot a 10 minute exposure at night, you need to make corrections at two stages: first, to give it extra time during the actual exposure (compensation for reciprocity) and second, adjust the development time accordingly (compensation for pushing it to higher ASA)

i hope its clearer now ;-)

Just a technical question, when you overexpose to compensate for reciprocity failure, do you also have the film developed for a shorter time? (I know it's done with BW negatives but I've no idea whether the same applies to colour negs.)

thank yiou :-)

Marian,
please dont get me wrong... i sure like 'single line sentences of praise' and they always make me smile...its just that in most cases they say absolutely nothing about the image itself thus being photographically useless... anyway, what i wrote is that "usefilm might be MORE USEFUL if its members spent more time on the images they open so as to write thoughtful comments instead of single line sentences of praise", and this is only my opinion ;-)

be happy!

Hi Kostas,

Looking at your portfolio, you do a lot of long exposures, and every one of them is very effective I have to say.

I like what happened to the water in this shot as a consequence. The lighting even though a bit harsh in places is very effective and I like the lights in the horizon, maybe a little island somewhere?

Regards,
Ciprian

you do not want "sigle lines of praise" dear Kostas....how can we do that when we are "captivated" by your photos.... am not much in to "technicalities" and OK maybe that blue chair does not fit in... but is like a little nothing when you look at the rest of the picture... so I will stay with the praise.... love it!!!!!!!

thank you :-))

chris,
the photo was taken around midnight, when all natural light had long gone. this part of the beach was illuminated by lamps, hence the light on the umbrellas/chairs and the waves. the initial metering was 3+ minutes but i exposed for 6 minutes to compensate for reciprocity failure. your remark about the blue chair made me realize that the picture might have greater impact without it ;-)
i like very much the way you looked at and commented on my picture...usefilm might be more useful if its members spent more time on the images they open so as to write thoughtful comments instead of single line sentences of praise...
my best regards
kostas

An interesting photograph that has a unique and surreal quality. A think a little bit of info on how this was created would be interesting. It seems to be a mix of night and daytime lighting, that creates a kind of puzzlement as to how this was taken/created. I would guess it was complete darkness, with some artificial light on the foreground and natural light on the water and horizon, esp. given the >5 minute exposure. The only thing to me that doesn't fit is the bright blue plastic chair in the foreground. Interesting work, as Im def. have a strong interest in long exposure shots,

Regards,
Chris
