expanding public conciousness....
by making our children feel guilty for something they do not understand and then using them as tools to advance our message. a message that is coldly calculated to assuage our own feelings of guilt or even worse, to advance our political desires.
truly a shameful and deplorable thing.
this not "news". it is the manufacture of "news". propaganda pure and simple.
and even though it is highly unfair of you to post an image that is clearly "about" the message and then restrict your audience to only technical comments on the photo and comments that agree with your position goes completely against what photojournalism is about. i understand that it is human nature to take sides. but therein lies the challenge of photojournalism, imo.
as to the photo itself, i think it is the best one in the series. technically beautiful, very effective crop and dof. isolating the child with a candle and a coincidentaly mournful expression is just perfect. and since it does the trick, the fact that the child is not actually mournful and probably doesn't understand why he's there, is beside the point, no? ;^)
take care, tom

nice image.. the mood on the child's face says it all...good capture... I believe that photos like this and others do have a place on usefilm regardless if I agree or disagree with the intended message...but, I think the concern is political messages that get attached to photos and also from comments that are for or against an image. If an image was able to be viewed without either (no about or comments allowed) then I think the intent would be there.. that the picture conveys a specific message or the viewer makes up his or her own mind about the image. good work

hi,Tracey and thanks for your comment...i welcome all comments/opinions/critiques as long as they are respectful and about my photo and/or photojournalism with my images of late...i am a "baby boomer" so have had many moons to experience the flavor of opins from the deep south, eastcoast, and westcoast thus am no longer as agitated with opposing beliefs...i am amused, yes, but not going to let my blood pressure suffer for it..LOL..i am but one small voice but believe in efforts to make a difference!...i hope peace will come in your lifetime....

I agree photojournalism is a necessity but... with politics, abortion and domestic violence as well as war there are always strong opinions! You have to be prepared to handle criticism or you'll spend most of your time $%#@ed off! Keep inflight!

Life is not always art, or beauty. It is up to photojournalists to show us the everyday, the distressing and sometimes the disturbing. A people can NOT immerse themselves in sit-coms on TV and hope for things to 'get better' somehow.
I find it distressing how this has somehow been classified as 'impolite' to broach difficult subjects. Only through civil discourse can we achieve progress!
Thanks for the reminder, Gayle.

The echo of the other 2 candles in the background is great! His face is wonderful.... Excellent capture and about, Gayle. I will not discuss it here, or it will take tooo long... but I have my opinion about this. Photojornalism is one important kind of photography as the others. If you want to know the rest of my opinion, I tell you... :-)
Thank you for your comment, my friend. The important is that you show up. ;-) Have a great weekend.

...Paradise, Sacrifice, Mortality, Reality...But the magician is quicker and his game is much thicker than blood and blacker than ink (and there's no time to think) Who's the magician and what does this all mean?I don't know, It came to my third eye like a radio antenna - a powerful shot, very nice work..(blame it on Kevin-made me think of someone) Mark
