nicd shot colin.... you managed to capture two of them in one photo, which can be difficult to do (unless you have a lot of patience). they're so unpredictable you have to shoot the photo quicky to get these insects on film.
the colours are good, the framing is nice, and the sharpening is not bad. well done.
hope your ealth problems dont keep you from continuing to shoot photos. i suufer from some chronic ailments myself, but dont let that stop me from doing what i need to and want to be out doing.
warmest regards from china ~ james

Kim. I don't know what made me put "Moths", as a title! Thanks to Marcus Sholz, I now know the species to be, "Queen of Spain Fritillary". Your similar picture is excellent,(dining off the same flower),and thank you for sending it. Now I just need to know the species, of my mutant spider, "Six Legs".....

I am so sad to hear that these are moths! I'll attach a photo beneath of what I thought of as a nice butterfly capture... now you're telling me it's a moth! *grin*

This is an excellent site, Markus, thank you. I will now be able to identify any future butterflies. I can't see what the blurred, small moth, behind, is. But,I know the main man now!

That's excellent information, Markus. Much appreciated!
I like to know as much as I can, about the subjects I photograph. It comes from my scientific training, I suppose. I'm going to my email now!
Thanks for making the effort, Markus.

Thanks for your comment on my Fritillary, Colin. What you have here is a similar species, I thing it's a Queen of Spain Fritillary. I can't send you the link here, so I used your e-mail address to send it to you.

It's not the same species than my Silver Washed Fritillary, Colin. To mee it seems more like a Queen of Spain Fritillary. Look also at http://www.butterfly-guide.co.uk/species/fritillaries/bret4.htm
Very nice shot.

Grazie, Gennaro. Apprezzo le vostre parole gentili. Ero quasi nervoso per mostrare questo, poichè i vostri propri insetti a macroistruzione sono coś professionali.

I would agree but with things that can move I couldnt ever get focused fast enough. I have not been able to get a monarch yet that is as sharp as I would like. even sharpened. and the second blurry is in my opinion a good thing.

Many thanks Bertone. Just back from your beautiful country. Been to the ancient hill villages, and got some superb photographs.
Molti ringraziamenti, Bertone. Parte giusta dal vostro paese bello. Stato ai villaggi antichi della collina ed ottenuto alcune fotografie. L'Italia deve essere l'una del mio, tutti i paesi del favorito.
Riguardi gentili

Thank you very much , Kim. I appreciate how much thought and effort has gone into your comment. In fact, I will do just as you suggest. I may resubmit it at a later date. (At present, I'm trying to find decent pics of my visit to the French-Italian border area).
I will also peruse you own images, which from a quick glance, look very special.
Thanks again for the helpful advice!
Regards
Colin

Working with an autofocus camera can be hard to get exactly what you want, but I think that you've got very strong basics here... the composition works well, with the sharp butterfly in the foreground and an echoed coloured moth in the background. The colours have nice saturation and the details are sharp. It would have been nicer to lose a bit more of the focus in the background, as I find the bg just a little too busy and it detracts a bit from the butterfly.

I'm glad you now have color vision again. This is a marvelous butterfly photo. Great colors in gold, black and violet, excellent focus and dof. Thank yoy for yoyr very kind comments on my "Hibiscus, detail 4" and "Orange hibiscus, detail" I hope the latter was not truamatic. Best regards, Rafi

Thanks a lot Dave. After viewing the superb insect macros on this site, I was almost ashamed to show this effort. But I try to console myself with the knowledge, that, I'd do much better with an expensive camera. But then, I couldn't afford to go to great locations like this, and get photos...and so on!
Appreciated as always, Dave.

Very nice capture, Colin! Beautiful colours and nice DOF to separate them from the background. I agree with your comments about the focussing, too! Dave.
