Another perfect shot. Compliments. I try to take shots like your, but I think that Italian birds are more wary than american birds, so they fly far from my lens.

The distance was only about 10 yards, he was right on top of me. I have many shots where I focused on the body and the front wing is sligtly blurred and the far wing is sharp, had he been 30 yards out I would have had no chance of blur at f/8. I have another shot here around the same distance at f/4 and both wings are totally blurred. so in theory you are right, but in practice results vary, I can do the same exact thing 5 times in a row and get 5 different levels of blur....

I thought it was due to the wings starting to travel in a different direction to the pan! At the distance your shooting I would have thought F8 would have covered DOF from the wing tip to infinity :)

Thanks David, actually 2000 can stop most any birds wings in there tracks, but not at f/8, I have been trying to get a little wing blur as many say my shots need some motion, so I have been playing around with higher apps as Im usually wide open....

Hi Marcus,
I think the terns have only just moved into our area for some reason. That could be why they don't like to get very close to people. They are the kind that have their yellow beak hooked down all the time, like they are looking down to the water. That's an easy way for me to tell them from the gulls from a distance. I notice the one in your picture is slightly different from the ones in my area. I'm going up to the cottage for a couple of days, so maybe I will have luck with the Herons or Ospreys. Sometimes the Ospreys dive quite close to our dock. There have been some nice Pileated Woodpeckers hanging around up there lately too. I'll see what I can come up with.

well typically these guys here are very shy and calm but they just had there babies so know they are in protection mode, which brought them all around me, so even though it wont be one of my most popular shots I just liked the pure look. I have these guy with fish, diving, fighting etc. but never really post them much...

Hi Marcus, Great shot of this Tern! The only birds I can get to dive bomb me are the seagulls! I've almost given up on our terns. I keep going back to where they are, but they are very shy (maybe because they are new to the area) they very rarely come close. Any shots I get are too far away to be of any quality.
