About This was taken from the ship going along the river. You can see the steps in the foreground leading up from the rivers edge. It seems as if the church is the focal point of every town in Europe.

If only the church was still the focal point of the community as well as the 'town', Don!
Best regards, Chris

Wonderful composition, Don. A great combination of colors. I like the framing on this too. Best wishes and thanks for your comments, Larry.

Petal thanks so much for you insight to the towns of Europe. It looked that way as we were touring. Church always in the center and everything built around. Thanks again. Don.

Nice shot!!! Like it that you've incorporated those steps into the shot... nice colors and composition... well captured!!!
Well now in the mood for a little 'take on Europe'...!!! It not only seems that way... it is... most of the time the church sits right in the center of town... or to put it in the right perspective... the town was build around the church. About the focal point: it is the heighest building in every town and in the Middle Ages is was one of the only buildings made of stone (the rest being wood build) so whenever there was a fire or an invasion people fled into the church and so for it to be in the center made sense in that way as well.... You find almost the same 'set up' in almost every town: church... (market) square and cafe/pub right next to each other.... God and the devil (booze) side by side... ), but only so you could have a drink on the dead after burial, well that was/is the excuse... (or maybe it was so they could say: I'm going to church or I've been to church afterwards.... LOL).
