About The final curtain...

Subject background: You might remember the first and the second picture... the door is open for Snake Plissken to escape from New York... Will he reach the gate?..

Now he reaches closer to the open gate... but what's that? It seems that the drugs they give him to tell the truth start to work... his vision becomes somehow like a shaky cam... will he able to leave the gate behind?

The shock: The gate he is heading for is NOT the gate to freedom! .. Snake Plissken tumbles back and looks to the left... Is that Steve McQueen waiting in his runaway car?... he decides to go there for a closer look...

When Plissken reaches the road, he sees a strange object with two buttons... POLICE and FIRE... "are you kiddin?", he says to himself... the blue or the red pill?... he decides to go for FIRE, with the hope to get out of this nightmare (even if it ends in HELL)... But when he finally pulls the trigger... he wakes up and finds himself in his bed having a bad nightmare... but what can you expect if you play in two Carpenter movies? =)

Not to be continued...

PS concept: Shot is done with a Hoya R72 IR filter (handheld). Switched the channel R=>B B=>R and did some level tweaking

Hahahaha, very good story, you had me...and your English is excellent Thilo...I love how you tied that (strange object with two buttons) in with this picture, it really is a believable story, love it...nice strong angle with the fence, in this one the tones aren't as strong but I guess that's kind of indicative to the confusion when he sees the box and the loss of hope because he wakes up and realizes it was a nightmare, so the story and the image match...nice work Thilo

Hi Pia,

LG, Thilo

Gefällt mir sehr gut, mal was ganz anderes vom Stil und Farben, erfrischend neu:)
Wenn ich den Hoya IR-Filter benutze muß ich bei der Aufnahme die Belichtung (+/-) noch korrigieren oder etwas ändern beim Weißabgleich? Was veränderst du an der Kamera?

Ciao, Pia

Hi Andre,

I fear that I don't have the right environment for Mad Max in Nuremberg ;-)

best wishes,

Impressive work. I might wish more detail in shadow areas. Regards.

very interesting picture,it is a little bit confused but I think this confusion gives very well the mood of New York.
it's nice to have a story.

Hi Thilo,

I've been away for a few days and only got a chance to comment on the first in this series. (The BIP winner) It was a great idea to do the series like a story-book! Could there be another in the works? I like the way they all fit together with consistancy. A good choice of a movie to be inspired by. How about "Mad Max" next?

By the way Kurt and his wife Goldie Hawn spend a lot of their summer time on a lake not too far from where our cottage is. Except they fly in to the million dollar cottages, while we drive the old Golf to the real cabins.

Later, Andre

I love the blue and the red in the image-they are definitely the main focal point. Which one will it be Mr. Anderson? But I can't help but love all of the little details that make an image come together. I love all of the lines-the fence, the tree limbs, the shadows on the side of the post-gives it a restricting feel. The dreary colors are just like from a confusing dream. Sad to see this story end so soon~

Hi Magnus,

well, you are very right with the references to film. I'm kind of a sucker to movies so I couldn't hold with the small hints. I'm really glad someone got all the pieces.

Hi Thilo, not quite what I expected as an ending, but nonetheless a very good shot. Would've expected something more zooming out, expressing the liberation (well, what can I say... I like happy endings...:))

The consistency in the postprocessing is very impressive, and the feel of the shot shot fits the rest of the images. Nicely done, again.

Very good work!

Cheers,

Hugo

Even though you can not see that it is NYC i like it a lot because i know it is. This is a bit of the grittyness that i like...the fence and the trash of course adds to this.

Now...being a huge fan of film and cinema I am going to try to disect what movies are referred to in the about:

Apart from the obvious escape from New York the getaway car and Steve McQueen got to be "Bullitt" and/or "Getaway". The blue and red pill and the choice between those sounds like "Matrix"
