This is what tends to happen when fear and loathing of an enemy drives people to consider them inhuman, to paint and tar an entire nation or race (or religion) with a single broad brush. When the enemy is said tobe "crazed", "deranged", "insane", "barbaric", "fanatical" etc.
Oh, boy, why does history repeat itself so?
At the same rate, the Japanese don't seem to have the perspective that they were an initial agressor, either.
There's a saying which states that every event always has three versions: yours, myne, and the truth.
The version that gets told depends only on who "won"...

A reminder for all. Wonder why the human race can't 'get it'........? I think it all comes down to greed and power. How sad...........
Excellent moving capture, Lori

Ive been to Hiroshima... so I know what you're on about. I dont know if you walked through the museum there... which showed many photos of burnt children etc. but all the Japanese people there were looking at me as if "your ancestors did this to us", it didnt feel nice, and was strange because all of the other time the Japanese people were amazingly kind. Im sure the Japanese assumed I was American, though Im not.
Your photo reminds me of the Mt Stromlo Observatory which recently burnt in a bushfire in Canberra: (i didnt take the photo)

Definitely a moving picture Mark. As for your comment about "some people claim it shortened the war?" I can't comment. But we do know it took those bombs to end it.

It seems 'mushroom clouds' can have real, and quite lasting, consequences. Two generations later, there are still repurcussios. They say that a weapon has never been invented and NOT been used; and we can all pray that the hydrogen bomb becomes the first such exception to the rule.
Sorry we didn't manage to enjoy the evening, Mark-san, but the evening turned out quite enjoyable anyway.
