Yes, it is, Roger. All that info appears in the viewfinder before you fully depress the shutter. Best regards, Chris

No, that's fine, Chris. "Aperture priority" and "shutter priority" would do it for me. Does it tell you the speed IF you select the aperture, and the aperture if you select the speed? I mean, does it tell you what it selected automatically? I know this information is in the EXIF data, but is it also displayed in the viewfinder or on an LCD at the time of the shot?
Sorry to keep bothering you... Thanks for your patience.

Hi again Roger, The D70 has an ISO control, so I can decide at what ISO I take a shot, (from 200 to 1600), or, if I so wish, I can set the camera to 'auto' ISO and it will decide for me. Similarly, the D70 has fully auto, programme, shutter priority, aperture priority, and fully manual modes. I nearly always have it set to aperture priority because I prefer to control the d.o.f. by setting the aperture myself. I hope this answers your question. If not, then I'm obviously thicker than I thought and you'll need to explain what you mean in even simpler terms!! Best regards, Chris

What I was asking, Chris, was not the actual settings (I could and did guess those) but whether and if so HOW you could ensure that these correct settings were used. I guess I can't imagine an automatic camera that knows when I want maximum (or minimum) depth of field! This is more than an idle question because I've been finding my SLR so much fun I'm wondering if a DSLR might be too, but I don't want to give up control to the auto features.

Hi Roger, this shot was taken at 28mm, 1/200th @ f14. I think I probably focussed towards the back of the foreground daisies. Thanks for the comment. Best regards, Chris

Lovely, Chris. How, with an automatic camera, do you ensure the full depth of focus you need? By setting a higher ISO to force a smaller aperture? Just curious... I think this frame is my favourite of yours so far. Minimalist! (The black tops and bottoms to your panoramas are nice, too.)

Wonderful shot Chris... I love how there is a diagonal line with the steps in the foreground and the way it contrasts with the strict verticals of the rest of the image. Excellent shot and I'm sure only one of a few we shall see of this place!

Wonderful arrangement of colors. I feel a lower angle and including just the foreground flowers would look great too, the building in the back seems a bit out of place to me against the beautiful flowers. Of course that's just my opinion ;)

Hi Chris,
I like the layered composition of various areas of flowers. It creates a very nice feel of distance and perspective. Very well composed.
