Hi Louise,
just saw your question regarding the studio shots and why so many people say they don't like them.
Personally I don't like them any more because my entire career in the movie industry I had to work in studios or create a studio-perfect look. I loved it in the beginning and it certainly looks nice, sharp and clear, but to me it feels a little unnatural.
I think in general the perfect studio look has been pushed to extremes (by the advertising industry) in the past to a point that almost a counter movement came up with a complete opposite look. The agency I submit photos to mentioned the same thing in one of their recent newsletters for photographers. Clients are more and more looking for photos that look more like taken out of life.
Frankly though, I think a lot of people say they prefer a natural look and natural light simply because they don't have a studio and no clue about how to setup light and make a scene look interesting and nice. All these things are not easy and require experience to do good.
You are doing a very good job and clients will allways ask for studio shots simply because they look very nice and parents like to see their children in a very nice and positive setup. I think it is not fair to look down on studio work especially from people who never did it, nor have the skills to do it properly.
I like to make my kids look beautiful in their natural environment. Same idea, different approach. Both ways require skills and neither is better or worse.
Again, I really love this shot. The only reason I found your comment/questions was because I went through your portfolio (because I really like your work) and particulary liked this shot! :)

What does everyone seem to have against studio shots? I have many many clients requesting studio portraits....just curious... is it that they are too 'faky' or 'posed'?

even though I'm not that much a fan of studio shots, I have to admit I like this one very much. Has a wonderful feeling to it. Great work!

Beautiful. Studio-shot, but somehow manages to be candid and natural at the same time. Love those tones.
