beautiful catch, thank you for your explanation and help below, I've always wanted to try to photo lightening, but never had a clue where to start.

I put it on manual setting and set the shutter to 30 sec, focus on a point in the distance and wait for lightning to strike, i do alot of deleting!best off using a tripod ( i sat it on the bonnet of my car with a ten second timer to activate photo).
