wonderful idea and construct...great colors...i can sense an order here!! and i like that one in the middle of the upper row from the aspect of introducing a diffrent color to the composition..stiil i see that u can put one of the 2 similar images in the middle row..the top row is ended with 2 completely orange shots but one id darker than the other is a nice idea as it made a degradation in the ratio between the two main colors orange and blue-my favourite clor combination- from top to bottom..it would have been more striking to put more blue shots in the bottom row..regards

What a striking set of images Hugo! For some reason, putting these together like this gives me the impression of some kind of Japanese Anime. I don't know why! Maybe it has a kind of surreal look that seems more like Computer Graphics or Animation than real life? Andre

This is a really interesting image Hugo. I was attracted to it by the bright colors, but that was about all I could make out from the thumbnail. After I realised they were all shots of a nacelle, I spent a lot of time looking at the individual parts examining the differences between similar compositions. ... I'm at a loss to explain my reaction to this image because it doesn't seem to follow any of the rules to make an image that I'm usually attracted to, yet I spent a lot of time with it.

This is very engaging. A wonderful study in light, shape and form, but it also appeals to my fancy for flight. I can see fans of this sport musing over the slickness of these images and wishing to run their fingers over the real thing. Congrats on the awards -- excellent! I must apologize Hugo for coming so late to comment. I've had a miserable time keeping up -- even if just to reciprocate -- while my children are under foot this summer. Now I see you're off on business -- I look forward to your return. Warmest regards. Antonia

Well now, where do I start.... being number 46 (or 47 it all depents on my typing skills/speed... LOL) comming up with something original or something that hasn't been said already is a mission impossible..... ;-D!!! So here goes (seen that, done that....): super colors (nice and fresh), great idea (yep those little puzzles).... well done!!! If it was your intention to go from orange to blue (gradually), 4 and 5 should be the other way around (starting with 1 at the top left one...).... maybe if I print it, cut it, frame it and play, I can put it right.... LOL!!!! What ever anyone says... it's certainly an eye-catcher!!!! Goeie hoor!!

Hi Randy,
Thanks, I find your assessment very interesting. I've been playing around with the composition quite a while, and I'm convinced there are as many good solutions as there are viewers (only limited by the amount of possible combinations, of course).
I already explained my intentions to a degree to Manu, but I'll try to elaborate a bit more.
The composition I derived at was based on the initial thought of increasing the amount of detail (reducing the abstract level) from 1 to 9. This didn't work, and I chose a compositon which balanced each individual column, as well as the overview. I tried to realise something as dynamic as possible, also triggering such comments as you wrote.
For the first row, orange - mix orange blue - orange, it was simple, but I didn't want to do that in the second row. There I aimed for an increase of the amount of blue, making the angle between engine and connection bar rotate a bit clockwise. The third row also shows an increase of angle, as well as in blue.
If you consider each individual column, I composed it as such, wedging the middel column: orange - orange blue - blue orange for the column on the right and the column on the left, and blu-orange - orange blue - blue orange for the middle one.
On a whole, this sort of creates an inverted arrow, pointing downwards, flanked by two orange spots in the lower left and lower right.
Hope you see what I mean. One thing most certainly worked out: It makes people think....:)
Much appreciated,
Cheers,
Hugo

Hugo, this is sure a viewer involvement creation, at least as I 'see' it. Upon first glance my mind was trying to rearange or sort out the 9 shots - to put some kind of order or make sequential sense...almost as if it(they) were a puzzle or test. Find the one that does not belong(#6),find matching pairs(1&3,2&8,4&5,7&9) ect. At any rate it draws you into an active participation and for photography that is top achievement.

Sorry about the confusion. What I meant to say is that I posted a similar series early last year. This geve me an idea to take these. See:

Hope this helps,

It's almost unbelievable, when I look at your older images, at the similarity in perspective!
I can honestly say that with this subject....we are looking through the same eyes. I have many other shots that I never posted, that fit right in with yours, like a glove. Your style is so effective, and your eye looks beneath, behind, beside, and through, what most eyes cannot....
Bravo~

Hi Hugo,
I'm so pleased to see this set of images, as I have an affinity towards flying machines. While the shots stand on their own individually, the minimalistic style of the shots makes them ideal for the "multi-arrangement".
I am especially impressed with the decision to place the fourth and fifth shots next to each other. Many would try to keep such similar images seperated from each other....but the subtle difference in exposure side-by-side is so interesting that it shouldn't be any other way.
The colors are so tasty, the detail crisp, and I really love the overall presentation!
I don't like to post comparative, or alternative images beneath someones work, so instead, here are links to a few images that I posted previously that you may find interesting....if only because the subject matter is so similar....I had to smile when I saw yours!
Kindest regards, Brad

Nice and creative, Hugo. I like the colours.

Hi Manu,
Sure I can take it...:) Even stronger, I appreciate your thoughts and critique alot!
As to your questions, Why this order? I was seraching for the individual placement from fully abstract to more recognisable, introducing more colour and details in the process. That proved to be rather difficult, as I wanted a balanced overview as well. So in the end, I ended up between a concession between the two.
The image is composed of nine different shots, not using a photo more than once.
As to the tonal difference, there are more images that are a bit "off". That's because a few were taken when we boarded the plane, and a few in full flight. Also, the tone in (specifically) numbers four and five (middle row, left and middle image) show the reflection of the (white) hull of the plane. That does explain the differences, I hope. (Otherwise, something went wrong in the postprocessing...:)
Thanks, my friend... Much appreciated!
Cheers,
Hugo

hi there,Hugo...wow! i don't know what hit me first, the clarity or the excellent vivid orange with blue which are very complimentary colors...also made me think of my now deceased Dad who was involved with aviation most of his life...i grew up knowing various aircraft from B-52's,the Jetstar (pres.kennedy's jet)to the A-wax...this is very well presented and i am intrigued by the individual abstractions...great job,Hugo!...i also like the shadows/light...have a great trip!...regards,gayle

Hi Hugo
What made you put these images in this order? Where they cut from one shot?
Great color but on 4 and 5 the hue seems a little different...hyper critical, I know, but you can take it.
Cheers
Manu
