About I quickly took this image this morning whilst I was talking to the gentleman. I would normally do this style of image in BW but I needed a Character shot in Colour so went in that direction instead.

I hope you can enjoy it.

The color is great in this -- I know what you mean about the BW but this one shouldn't be missed in color. Nice crop -- it sings in the character of detail. Antonia

Wow Judi, this photo is incredible. I like that it is shot in colour. There is so little colour in the actual photo that the hint makes it even more interesting (at least in my opinion).

Thanks.Melody

I think it would look better in B&W, removes the colour cast and also suits the subject matter well.

Wayne, I took this image under our Patio Roof. It is made out of Laserlight which really diffuses the light but does give a colour cast. I did desaturate it slightly as it was too colourful for my liking. It was taken in the middle of the day almost so the light refelction was quite strong.

Hope that answers your question.

Beautiful example of a close-up portrait. The image is full of the man's life history and character.

It is also beautifully lit, and the subdued colours add to the sense of age and tiredness imparted by the eyes and hand positioning.

Very well done, Judi.

Great detail, though it seems to have a stranger colour balance.

What was the light ?

A charracter indeed, dear Judi and I think the color, being more or less monochromatic adds instead of substracting.
Thank you once more for your encouraging comments. I'll do my best to "keep them coming", but today is Memorial Day for the Holocaust victims and heroes. Rachel read from her book yesterday and I dont want to distort photos from that occasion. I'll "keep them coming" some other day.
Best regards,
Rafi

Captivating portrait! Your title can not be more accurate! His expression is incredible as all the detail you captured. I'm not sure that B&W would be as impresive. The tanned skin is an essential part of the compostion, maybe in a sepia tone. Great image, Judy!!!! -- Cheers, Rafael

I certainly think it will!!! Just saw Kels latest post - interesting that you too have 'swapped' roles! She normally does portraits and is doing sunsets and you normally do sunsets and are doing portraits!
Good luck with the competition Judi (not that you'll need it!). I'm just glad I don't compete with you two!!!

The faces of the elderly tell such stories... This works well in colour but I think would work even better in black and white (and perhaps brown toned?). This is a very finely detailed and well lit image, really showing the lines of experience this man has picked up through his life. Each experience seems to have been etched in detail onto him and is there for the world to see and admire.
Well shot Judi....
