Judi, this is a very interesting creation. I don't think this image can be simply catalog as as a collage of images working on a common theme. As such, I guess I can understand Ondrej point of view. I, however, see a strong surrealist work/image/creation very much along the lines of Rene Magritte or De Chirico. A true attempt to solve life's puzzles or interpret life's emotions. I'll borrow one of Ordrej's points, the model seem a bit out of place, but that's one detail that accentuates the surrealist aspect here, it's not harmonious in detail, yet essential in the interpretation. can you tell I like A LOT!! Defintely a FAV in my book. KUDOS Judi, -- Cheers, Rafael

PS, sorry for going on and on.

good effect from the window, it looks not easy to create this place, maybe in BW will be more effective or blue type. In my opinion of course.

Judi,
This is fabulous! I only have one comment I can see to "critique"
There seem to be the upper right leg on your chair...missing..if you look at the picture from the right perspective , it is missing....Other than that which is the only obvious flaw to me..It is perfect!

Fabulous and strong artwork Judi, you've created a fantastic mood! however I have one minor complaint if you don't mind, which is I would loved the back seat legs to be darker for more realism, but still this is fantastic!

Thankyou so much Randy for your honest opinion. I really appreciate that. I think the area you must be referring to are the sunbeams. Maybe I should have gaussianed them a bit more. Thanks for that. I will definitely watch that next time.

Thankyou for your honesty. I put the landscape in the windows to portray the bright colourful world outside your own dark lonely world inside.

If that makes sense.

Another direction for you. I love your image to portray that 'living in a bubble' feeling. To me your model is a fine choice,as this feeling can happen to anyone, as Bryan said. Young or old,man or woman, beautiful or myself :) Great job of composing the image and I feel the clouds visible in window is a necessary element to complete the portrayal, as outside is full,colorful,alive...compared to the bleakness surrounding our thoughts, that which is inside ourselves.
But(sorry)I do find a distracting portion which is in about half the area between her and the window. It was more apparent when I set picture as background on monitor. That may be what Ondrej referred to. I selected that area and applied gaussian blur and motion blur and think that eliminated it. Here is result.
That said,it is a wonderful piece and added to favorites.

Very effecftive composition. Quite dramatic, nothing to distract from the main focus.

There is another site where one can click to see the capture at full screen... this is such a one... where it would really do justice

My only two NikPics are that the white frame... tends to distact... and then the window-clouds... do they really work... I am unsure

well done

Masterful use of words and imagery. This is colorful but still simple; creating strong realism with some nice lighting. Tell me your secret- at first I thought it might be a composite, but I have seen your work and know that you are creative enough to pull this off w/o PS. Luke

Judi Liosatos Judi Liosatos   {K:34047} 4/30/2005
Oh boy. I am about to go to bed as I am very tired, but I will try to write the steps here for you.

I took the original image of Rose on this black background. So that area is untouched. I increased the canvas size threefold to accomodate the other areas and the area of space around her.

I then built a window on the computer and put one of my landscapes behind it.

I then added the rays on separate layers by floodfilling the areas I wanted. I then changed the blend modes to Screen and dropped the opacity to 27%. Each layer than got two gaussian blurs of 63.7 and then 97.7.

I then merged the four sunrays together and masked them with a gradient from Rose towards the window.

I added a soft shadow beneath Rose and that is it.

I hope that helps.

When I saw this image on thumbnail ... it was like WOW ... that is SOMETHING. But seeing the larger version I find some things that disturb me: the models expression is not exactly what I would expect in this type of "airy", poetic image, the models pose and overall the model ... She is very beautiful but for me not for this type of photo.. Also digital manipulation is too apparent ... oversharpened and not natural for me ... Excuse me, just my opinion.. Are we expected to give only positive comments? :)

Great shot Judi... very powerful image!!! I love te simplicity of it and the way the light is shining through the window... (I suspect the window with the light patterns on its own would be a striking image too!) And the woman in the chair is stunning!!! This is a stunning shot Judi and I love it to bits (Favs for this!). The only thing it needs to make it absolutely perfect is shadows of the chair legs on the bright patch on the floor going the right way! I still absolutely love it though!
