About Had this wonderful bird at my feeder for the last couple of days. Not sure if it is a grosbeak, I don't think they're supposed to be here in Louisiana, but he sure looks like one. If anyone can help me i.d. please do.

Darlene: It most definitely is what you say. We had one of these show up last summer but that's the only one we've ever seen here in the mountains. This one looks rather young.

Darlene, my husband, the birdwatcher, says this is indeed, a Rose-Breasted Grosbeak. You did get a wonderful picture.

Second try, the first was filtered out due to an external link...

Darlene,

When I have a question like this, I usually use Google - a wonderful tool! Here's what a quick search for "grosbeak" found:

www. mbr-pwrc. usgs. gov / id / framlst / i5950id.html

(remove the spaces)

Seems like this beauty (wonderful capture!) is indeed a Rose-breasted grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus)

Great shot. Just a little patch of his breast got a little blown...

Beautiful photo! I just took a peek at your portfolio and you really do have some awesome bird shots! Your grosbeak must be migrating - guess they have to stop off somewhere along the way - so glad you got to enjoy him and share him with the rest of us!

Cheri, I have a feeder in my backyard and I do watch it. My camera is on a tripod with the 600 lens set up and when I see something I shoot it. I was very lucky on this one, it just happened to be the right light. I am not always that lucky and do trash quite a few. Thanks so much for your comments!

Beautiful capture!! What a lovely bird I agree he does look like a grosbeak but I'm not sure if he is or not sorry I'm not more help to you there. I do have a strange question... how did you get such a lovely photo of this bird? Was it a lot of waiting around or were you just lucky? It's a beautiful shot so you must have had a clear look at him and been in perfect position to take the photo. I just wanted some tips I'd love to try my hand at birds when I get back to my homestate.
Thanks for sharing,
~Cheri

I agree on the type, Darlene, we saw them at our feeders, quite a bit later in the year, for the first time last summer. You got a great shot of him, too!
BTW, thanks for the comments!
Dave.
