About I saw this old man outside a foodchain chewing a piece of bread. I was holding a soda and he looked up to me, I gave him the soda and decided to buy another bottle of mineral water from a nearby 711 store. I went back to give him the bottle of water and asked him if I could take his photo and he said ok.

The "Taong Grasa" (a man covered with dirt, smells very bad, no home, nobody cares, and no family) as we call it here. Can you come and feel his pain?

Hi Larry, sorry for the delayed response. I didn't realize UF message alerts can be overwhelming. Been living here in the US for only 5 years. I left Manila when Erap was overthrown - Edsa II, company transfer.

But I've been going home almost every year for business and vacation. My family is still there so my roots will always be there. Yes I hope things do turn better for our country.

hi jinggoy, thanks for visiting. how long have u been staying there? anyway, glad you liked the shots. although my previous shots are quite deep, emotionally. but yah, they all depict truth in life. kakalungkot lang isipin pero yan talaga totoo... di ko rin alam kung kelan and pano ma-ease yan. but i was hoping that maybe thru these photos, many people's hearts like you will be touched and see what happens from there... thanks again, dude!

bests,
LarryM.P.

Larry, i was going through your gallery. Excellent collection of images from our country! Yes, this photo makes me "feel the pain", when will it ease? How will it go away? His guess is as good as mine.

I miss Manila and I hope to go back someday when I've completed my obligations....

You have a kind heart, and a very gritty, powerful and real portrait to back you up! I feel like he only smiled to thank you, the wrinkles and lines are so rich, and you have captured them so well!

Hi Andy,
Im glad you did understand the feeling and emotion this portrait brings about. Only few get to understand the truth about human spirits, about life and emptiness. Glad you did. Wish us all the luck in the world.

His disparity is clear for all to see. A portrait, in my opinion, should tell a story. This one purveys a saga of trial and hardship. You have managed to capture years of suffering within the shade and texture of his facial features ? excellent! Photography like this should change the way we feel about our fellow human beings. It seems, however, that the ones who have the power to change the world are only interested in the portraits on a dollar bill. Fine story telling Larry.

Very sensitive and emotionate portrait, to go with the strong description and commentary, Larry.

I thank God every day I do not have to feel a pain like this man, that I am blessed with health and a loving family.

This is a wonderful piece of journalism and social commentary.

Larry,
Very emotional capture. I know that you feel his pain or you wouldn't even have noticed him. We have to realize that everyone we meet is a mirrored reflection of some aspect of ourselves. Once we come to terms with this we can feel the pain of others as "others" are us. We are one whether we like it or not. NICE work brother.

The beauty of the world has two edges, one of laughter, one of anguish, cutting the heart asunder. -- Virginia Woolf

Your image proves it. Great photographs are more than records of brilliance and shadow, they're tracings of the heart. You've painted a picture of the human condition using nothing but light. Congratulations.
