Saludos Yamil

Hi Norma thanks for the comment. These guys are very common around my neighborhood. They are very noisy and always looking for food. Among the California?s birds, Steller?s Jays are one of the most colorful. They are very nervous, so when I found this one distracted looking for insects, I took advantage of the situation, got very close and took a couple of shots. Glad that you liked it. Yamil.

Hi Mary, At the Cornell Lab of Ornithology web page, I found some interesting facts about Steller?s Jays and Blue Jays. They mentioned that Steller's and Blue jays are the only North American jays with crests. The Blue Jay is expanding its range westward. Where they meet, the two species occasionally interbreed and produce hybrids and the Steller's jay and the Blue Jay are the only New World jays that use mud in the construction of their nests. So they not only share external characteristics, but also construction patterns. Regards. Yamil

He reminds me of our Blue Jays only having a bad hair day. Well, the back part does. His head is quite different. Great detail and colour. Mary -
