Thanks for the tips. I will try it. Yes, that is pretty much what it looks like, except for the ambient flash stuff at the lower right. Why do you ask?

Thanks Toni! It really so easy. Take your nikon point it at the sun or off to one side set the exposer, focus and shoot. It helps to have some clouds or fog and a low sun. At sunset and sunrise is when you get these great colors.
This particular shot the sun had just rose above the horizon. It was between the horizon and a cloud bank. Theres another shot in my portfolio where the sun is just starting to go behind the cloud bank. The top of the sun is starting to diffuse.
Is this what you viewfinder dislpay looks like?

This is exquisite. I have an urge to perch some fairies among those branches (not a manly thing, I know, but this is the time of day you can catch them you know) It's perfect the way it is -- I love the way the branches silohuette against the sun. It is so unusual to be this dark -- like the moon. Antonia

This is a good reason to get out of bed early. My wife says I'm crazy....O'Well. Great shot Pat and congrads on the award, I seen it from my motel in the mountains but I hate typing on my laptop so thought I would give you thumbs up when I got home. Again...excellent shot here. Lee

Fabrizio, Only a slight contrast adjustment and croping. I metered the sun and put the tree in the foreground. The sun was rising and just about to climb into a bank of clouds. I love shooting the sun. You never get the same effect twice.

Wise choice to wake up early! This shot is so moody, I like the tones in the sky. (how much) did you retouch in after scanning? 7
