About This image may not look much. It may look very simple and plain. But this image means more to me than any other image I have ever uploaded.

You see, this is my oldest son. He is 6 years old. For the first five years of his life he had virtually no hearing at all. It took five years of pleading for help before someobdy listened and when they took action. he heard almost for the first time in his life.

He heard noises he had never heard before. A simple ambulance siren previously would send him screaming into the house....noises hurt him badly. We couldn't go to fireworks, have smoke alarms or even wash the windows. It would hurt him.

And then he could hear and his head nearly fell off with turning to all these new sounds in the world around him. He previously never had friends and was beaten up daily by other boys because of his problem. He wouldn't dance, but instead would fall down in a crying heap. He couldn't hop on one leg. He was always falling down. He wouldn't get up in front of people....because he couldn't hear them. If I ever went to a performance by his class he would sit on the ground and not move. It would break my heart to see him just scrunched up in a heap. He couldn't handle wide open spaces or playing with other children.

The day I took this photo I was photographing the children playing. Nikolas did something he was proud of. He didn't know I was watching him. He started dancing and I caught it on film. He was singing and dancing his steps in the light of the rising sun. He was happy. He had the world at his feet. He is now the top of his class. In one year he has been born.

We now have to get him fixed every six months.....but it is worth it.

This photo makes me happy.

Mats...I can understand your uncertaintity for doing the right thing by your children. I have three children who are all Autistic and out here there just isn't the help for families. I am the co-ordinator for the group in Central Queensland and relay to help families come to terms with it. It is difficult but what people don't realise is we are all human and we are all here to help our children.

I am moved - and I hope that you realise that your persistent pleading for your son is the reason that he got the help he needed - you should also feel good about yourself - you did the right thing.

As a parent I can sometimes stop and think about if the decisions I make is the right for my family, and I can only guess that if it took so long time before you got help for your son you run into several "walls" on the way - the decision you made to keep trying was clearly the right one.

Im realy happy for you and your son.

This is always going to be a very very special picture to you, it must have been so very very hard to cope with all these years for him and you and your family. My son suffered just partial on and off deafness in his early years,.
You must be so proud of him, he has achieved so much in one year

Hi Judi, when I looked at your picture here,I felt this was a great shot, simple but perfectly composed and the message of the picture did not need the caption. And I felt the love and happiness which it is transmitting and I thought it was the love to the landscape and the nature of your country. When I read your comment i was very moved and understood better. Thank you for sharing picture and this part of your life and congratulations to all of you. I am happy with you!

Thankyou Dottie. I took the children to the fireworks the other night. Nikolas was frightened but couldn't take his hands off his ears to open the car doors so he huddled in behind me and just watched the colours. It was a big step.

This photo & about makes me VERY happy too. God Bless you & your family I will keep Nikolas in my prayers that he may continue to hear & continue to experience all of the joy this world can hold. I pray that his ears always hear loving and gentle sounds, (and that the sirens don't frighten him anymore) Your paramedic friend in the USA Dottie

What a tender story you have here, I had no comprehension of what is wrong. I am so very happy for Nicholas and you and Damion to finally have some control of this situtation.....

This picture is great and I have put in my favorites, I feel it is from deep within you and it is easy to understand what it means to you!!

Hugs

Change the tonality of the color, from the warm orange tree, to the blue, but the style stays unchanged, refined, clean, essential, another pearl to add to your necklace!
