Hi Antonia, This is a fresh, uncooked oyster that I used just for the photograph. We use a shucking knife (blunt edged, knife looking tool) to open oysters. Makes it a little easier but still a pain. The pearl and the oyster were put together by me in this case. Thank you for your comment.

Hi Ismael, I apologize for responding so late. I was away. Yes, the pearl is real but the image was staged. I put the two together. Thank you for your comment.

Very pretty. So this is what a pearl looks like sitting in an oyster -- never have seen this before. I'd love to know the story behind this shot. Someone had to remove the top part of the oyster, no? And why do his insides look so fresh? Interesting image. :) Antonia (p.s. thanks for your congrats on Chess -- I really appreciate you taking the time to visit all 3 and let me know what you think. Glad you like both versions.)

Your kind comments on my mobile phone pictures brought me to your photos (thanks). I see you are more into experimental and macro images. This is a particularly fine image. lovely textures--the rough shells, living shellfish, and smooth pearl! Thanks for the tip about noise. I did think about tidying it up, but ended up leaving it as an example of what a "toy" camera could do on its own... (given someone to push the button).

Oh that!... :) Here I am talking about pearls. ROFL. There's an alleged connection but I don't know if there's any truth to that!

Hi Alastair, Were you asking if the rest of the oysters had pearls in them? I wish. This pearl is actually an earring that I had tucked in there. I should have told you guys that in the about. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks for your comment. :)

Now Lily, I'm curious about the rest of the oyster..... Did it work? Nice composition here... the foreground pale colours contrasts well with dark background and I like the way the separtor between light and dark is diagonally across the image. Excellent DOF here too! Love it!
