About Just for fun, do you know what this is? Probably not difficult to guess. Taken in Botanical Garden on macro no other editing done. A stunning specimen of its kind. Will post answer later. Crits to improve shot always welcome.

Well that is impressive, I cheated and found the answer, but it is a great shot, and I too think it is on a aloe vera plant. Your answer however is also a really great macro shot

Great shot was it taken on an aloe vera plant?
I'm going to guess it's a butterfly cocoon.

Alison, we found one of these in our carden - very impressive. We have a couple of the mothers running around - aparently, they dont bite or anything dangerous, so people really shouldnt kill them. These are very beautiful spiders. A lovely photo. Well done.
