Good capture Jim nice that it is against a tree with not only interesting bark, but mostly white so the owl shows up against it. Excellent detail Margaret

Elena Owls are nocturnal and usually hunt before sunrise and at dusk. However they will hunt on cloudy days as well. It was cloudy when I left home Saturday, but got real Sunny once I arrived. Spent the whole day waiting for dusk, and was given this chance, and the Northern Hawk Owl shot within 1/2 mile of each other. When this shot was taken he was hunting, I have photos of him scanning the ground , they listen and then pounce, I have seen that as well, but not with the camera yet. Wildlife photography is a game of patience. thanks for your kind comments jimc

Wow! What a great shoot! I never saw Owls with a sunset light. He looks very sleepy, did you wake him up? I've read they sleep all day and hunting only at night time, is it right? Regards, Lena

This too is a super shot Jim. Very nice and very sharp. The lighting makes this one jump. Not much sharpness lost with the extender.

Thank you so much for the comment. I have photographed an owl in this location for the last three weekends. It in the country, about 40 Miles from my house. Actually in a little farming community where I grew up. I never though about going there for Photos ! But read about it on the Internet. The light and diredtion was chosen by the Owl. I had 2 sessions with him, this being the second. He is in the clear and side lite so it worked out well. Again thanks jc

Jim, you've got that lens firing on all cylinders now. Fantastic shot and the lighting is absolutely perfect. What better background than a Silver Birch tree trunk. Den
