An excellent scenic Chris-- I like those standing rocks and assume they were put that way by humans?! The color saturation is incredible-- is that the character of the 8700? Is your D70 in for repair? Thanks for comments on my foggy boats photo. Cheers. Craig

Great scene Chris and fantastic results! I think it's a matter of getting used to each other, and who knows, maybe you'll not be able to get back to your D70 :)

Sounds like a new marriage to me ...lol....but the results of your combined efforts publicly are fantastic. You just have to learn to listen to her feelings and she will perform to your needs. These stones are so interesting and I think I have seen then somewhere before but don't remember what there significance was..or I guess that is lost with the ages

Well it looks good to me, in fact it is good, despite me being a bit protective of the poor 8700. I must admit I have more trouble with the D70 not focussing when I tell it to Margaret

But you still end up with an awe inspiring image Chris. Love the composition and you also got a bit of added human interest. Oh, maybe he was hidden by the obelisk when you pressed the button and you got the dreaded shutter lag. Den

Nice composition and lovely light. I should think that a ZLR is a bit of a handful after the control of an SLR - I find any automation to be a right pain.

Thanks for your kind comment, Nigel. Ham Hill, (where this shot was taken), is the site of an iron-age hill fort (one of the largest in Britain) and also of a quarry from which the beautiful, golden Ham stone seen in the picture is hewn. Many of the houses in my home village of martock are made from this stone.
The hill is the highest point for miles and, on the north side, there's a wonderful view over the Somerset levels. The monument was erected on the north edge of the hill and overlooks the village of Stoke-sub-Hamdon. It's a war memorial and can be seen for many miles around. Th stone circle is very recent and, as far as I know, has no pagan associations.
Best regards, Chris
P.S. If I had any "pretentious wallies" in my congregation I'd certainly never have the nerve to tell them so!! ))

Well Chris if you will buy these Nikons wht can you expect, anyhow re the shot its a good mix of colours with nice saturation.I really like the way you have framed the obelisk with the standing stones.Dont know if the obelisk has any christian conetations but if so then you have the combination of the pagan and christian traditions of this part of the world in the same shot.If not then I'm just being a pretentious wally as my vicar tells me mst sunday mornings

Still nice shot though, Chris. I have been following your portfolio for sometime and I am always impressed by your photos. This is the first time I really made a comment because you get so many and you probaly do not have time to read all. But I write to express that your photos have inspired me to excel. Greetings from downunder... Art

Well, it obviously hasn't affected your gift for perfect framing/cropping. This one could provide an object lesson in it for a school of photography! Incidentally I think the borrowed 8700 must be a male camera, rather than a female one. Not many female flashers around...
