Hi Grant,
Thaks for your kind comments and your suggestion - The shot is cropped by only a small amount - maybe 10% of the right side. The original foreground isn't quite so dark - I may try using a Levels layer in Photoshop to lighten it a bit for the web.

Wow! What a great capture! The DOF is perfect, the waves crashing in the background make a perfect counterpoint to the main subject. The framing is well nigh perfect -- is it a crop? The only constructive complaint I can make is that the foreground is a little too dark. or seems so. It's possible that you tried lightening it and found that it didn't work. Wonderful image -- well done!
