Hi, well seen indeed. I suppose the plaster of the houses should have been really white? Camera's aren't very good at taking pictures from white surfaces like snow etc. This is because they think everything is on average 18% grey, which is an average. So if you want to take pictures from white surfaces, you'll have to instruct the camera it isn't looking at 18% grey but at a white surface. That's where the exposure correction button (I think your camera has) comes in. One stop + or maybe even 2 stops would probably have made the sky overexposed but would have shown the surfaces as being actually white and the shadowy parts would have shown more detail.
