the flock apparently didn't like my arms flailing about overhead... but then it's kinda hard not to do that when your feet go out from underneath you on the ice... ;-)
Thanks Dave. I survived the ordeal... lol. I really should get some of those metal cleats that can be strapped to the soles of your boots for when I shoot out on the ice... ;-)
Thanks Alison. These are 'long-tailed ducks' (Clangula hyemalis), formerly known as 'Oldsquaws'. They're arctic breeders which overwinter here in increasingly greater numbers, due to an increase in zebra mussels which they use as a food source.
