About For everyone that asked how this was done. I set my camera on a tripod.I set it for 3 frames per second. I placed a firecracker in the apple and caught the explosion. The entrance wound is totally created with Photoshop. The bullet was placed in position and blended a bit with the smoke so as not to look pasted in place.

Nice idea. Good job on the entrance wound. By the way, I am moving you to my associates list, from friends - more appropriate there as I do not know you but will still be able to follow your posts.

Top effect Dan.
Was just looking at an original print of Harold Edgertons apple/bullet shot at our National Art gallery last week.
Without the admission I was ready to believe you had amazing reflexes :)

Ehhehe... you apple abuser! ;-) I have seen a bit similar photos, but never when the bullet too could be seen. Very "shocking" and strong shot. Never thought I would be able to feel sorry for an apple...

Ps. I just looked around on your web page. Very nice and very interesting!

Oh I?m sorry Dan, I guess it?s just the way the light and apple fragments are hitting the back of the jacket that makes it looks like the extractor ring of the shell casing. At first it looked like you squeezed the cartridge down in photoshop to the approx size of the bullet itself. And I?ve honestly never seen that particular type of a semi jacketed bullet.
It just looked deceiving since the point of the bullet appears to be crimped (which implies the bullet has a full metal jacket)
It?s not my intention to debunk the authenticity of this photo since it?s admittedly a photoshop composite, it just looked to me that the bullet was photoshoped inaccurately and I thought I would bring that to your attention and offer you a suggestion to make it look more believable. Sorry for the confusion

No I actually just used the cloning tool and chose the sponge looking brush .

Geza Farkas   {K:12412} 1/24/2005
Splendid. Did you use some PS plug-ins for entrace wound?

Dan Lightner   {K:12684} 1/24/2005
Thats a copper jacket on the bullet , if it were a shell casing it would be far to small to hold enough powder for a bullet of that size.

Dan, I love your work, and thank you commenting on my stuff also. so, this is just a little mark up suggestion for the ballistically experienced. The one dead give away in this shot is the bullet. You have to get rid of the shell case to make this an accurate and believable depiction of a bullet ripping thru an apple. Other than that, it?s great photoshop work on the entrance wound and the smoke.. everything is cool except for the shell case still being attached to the bullet.

Very good PS work. The colors and details seem good. ME thinks that were that a real bullet, passing through an apple, the apple would have sustained much more damage! EG: exploded?

Dan, WOW this is a great shot! (no pun intended) I hope you meant to kill that apple! :) You will have to wipe up the apple juice now. I like the idea, and would love to know how you did this. Amy
