Great idea and I love the perspective and the catchlights in her eyes. "Neat image" is a good program for noise reduction and it's a free download...just google it. :)

Ray you are right about window light being a MUCH better option. But her parents are on 2nd shift so we don't usually get her until 4 and then to get her dinner in her so she isn't cranky... it's dark. On occation I could shoot her on a weekend, but her mom's dress was out as it was being taken to be cleaned so we just took then shots so we'd have some and to see what we could get. We might possibly take a few more on a weekend in a few months but then she will be much closer to 1.5yr rather than 12mo.
All that to say.... I agree with you natural light would have been a MUCH better option than trying to fix it after the fact. Thank you very much for your thoughts. :)

hi Sara, nice image, great idea, all the comments re noise are about how to fix 'this' image, noise is not a problem if it adds to the aesthetic, but is a problem when the image tries to be something else, ie the technique of grainy/high speed/available light may not be right for this type of image
why not try available window light and keep the ISO down

Howie Mudge made a huge difference on this shot. It's such a beautiful shot and a beautiful moment to be in her mommy's wedding dress. Yes you must take one every year of her. that will be amazing when she can fully fit in the dress and then look back at each year.

I don't think it is that bad. Actually the skin tones look good to me. I do minde the noise in the skin tones a little.
When you convert to B&W you can reduce the noise a lot by using the chaneel mixer and use less red and/or blue. Those chanels usually have more noise than green. This will somestimes make red lips look too dark, but you can easily fix that by creating another layer with a B&W conversion that work better with red tones and use that only for the lips.
If you can't get the contrast right beween skin tones and other parts in the image, again, make two separate layers and in one you get the skin tones right, in the other one you make the other parts work. Then combine them.

I know that PSP 9 has a BOMB noise filter, if you care to download the entire program just for the filter??
I think this is an adorable idea! I know it is all a matter of taste, but I think it might look nicey with a real dreamy effect to it rather than a painted one. Maybe like a diffused glow with a porcelain filter and maybe a bit of soft focuse added?? Just my thoughts. Hope you get it just the way you want it!

The skin tones look like its probably noise from the camera so maybe this was a high iso capture? I've had to resize this to 500 and run the Helicon noise filter over it just to remove the noise from the capture. Hope this helps.
