After dark, street peddlers are all around the city selling noodles, snacks and other "street food". While street food can be lacking of hygiene, it is also GOOD and CHEAP! If you are brave (or completely insane!) enough, try snake, grilled rat or even fried bee! If you have the stomach, try eating the foods from these food stalls. Meat-sicles, fruit-sicles, insect-sicles, ie food on a stick are very popular with the locals.
This photo has been taken on Xuagongfu Jie Street in Wangfu Jing Shopping Center, Beijing, China. This narrow hutong is lined with loads of food vendors as good to watch as to eat.
Wonderful shot--and thanks for the interesting notes. My wife tells of wonderful roasted yams from street vendors--a little more to my taste than some of the delicacies you mention. On balance, I suppose I'd rather watch than eat!
