ethan, thanks for the nice comment and suggestion for my punk is dead image. I think using the burn tool for shadow is a great idea. I'm so glad you commented on my image because I have now been lucky enough to see your work. You are photographing a very different intriguing world of subjects. Keep up the good work. The light coming from outside the left part of the frame here really adds to the already interesting composition.

Honestly, I think it works for this photo, Ethan. Placing a translucent layer (sheet, plastic, etc) between your Home Depot light and your subject will go a long way to softening the light and improving the quality of your shots. This was shot far enough away that its not a huge issue, but a closer head&shoulders shot would have harsh shadows from a shop light.
Just a thought.
