Thilo, you succeeded extremely well in realizing your intentions. The light passing throught the side canal is wonderful and forms a pleasing cross with the wake of the boat. Very, very nice!! Congratulations on the choice of photo as Donor Photo of the Day. It's well deserved. Steve

Hi Mary Sue,
Thanks a lot for the inspiring critique and the kind words.
The magic colors come fromes the water reflections and the backlighting... but yes: this is how Venice looks at the Canale Grande. A must see for photographers ;-)
take care, thilo

I think this is an interesting image because it looks like a diptych with the boat on one side and the emty water on the other == and yes it does look like a watery western town. K

The low-angle, wide-angle view is perfect for this image. What I like best, though, is the composition with the 'window' set just slightly off center. My eye is pulled all the way to the horizon.
The pastel colors are delicate and almost magical. Is this how Venice really looks?
It is dreamy.

Hi Thilo!
A beautiful place captured lovely. I like how the light is reflecting up on the houses from the water and with that making the shadows soft. Thhis format is also great for the subject.
Congratulations!!!!!

'Potemkin village' wäre mein Titel Vorschlag
die große Badewanne in der eine Filmkulisse erstellt wurde...und gerade kam das batteriebetriebene Motorboot vorbei...er hatte es sich doch so sehnlich gewünscht...Weihnachten lag es dann unterm Baum

I love the way the light reflections lead you dead centre up to the bridge. What a fabulous place it must be :-)

Hi Thilo, How've you been! Thanks for your comment, I'll reply asap, but having been burried in work, I'm afraid it'll take some time.
Very well composed image. The fact that the boat has passed the centerline is an excellent touch, it places the attention with the Venice cityscape beautifully. The boat still forms an essential part in this iamge, but it's off centered placement makes it less intrusive. Good choice!
I like the presentation, with the black bars on top and below; it fit's with the predominant alignment within the composition. This is top notch stuff!
Cheers,
Hugo

Hi Thilo, i like this! nice perspective and format. Contrary to others here i like the pano crop. The colours (of the houses) seem faded but this is probably how they were and add to the atmosphere. I've never been to Venice but it is on my list :) Cheers Neil

Hi Thilo, what I really like in your shot is the wide angle which makes the whole composition look unusual in positive way; IMHO the proportions between water, buildings and the sky are proper and accurate; buildings have wonderful details which does not allow just sneak through them - they keep my eyes busy;
the only objection I have is this little overexposure coming from the canal;
the boat closes the whole composition in natural way and adds some impact;
to sum up, I really like it;
regards Lukasz

I like your choice of viewpoint Thilo. The view down the smaller canal splits the image but takes the eye right into the city. I would love to see this as a very large print. The low shooting angle adds to the dynamic of the composition. Nice work. Regards John
