About Subject background: Night in the city of Nuremberg, checking the cocktail bars, playing the bartender blues, following the no-flash-philosophy idea. The glasses stood as they are seen here - no arrangement from my side. Took place in "Bar Europa", Nuremberg. The different glasses with different materials may stand for the melting pot in Europe... =)

PC concept: changed the toning, worked on the details in the darker areas. tried to work creatively with the 1/15s shutter (hand-held).

As always: Honest feedback highly appreciated.

Dedicated to Pia and James B.

Hi Steve,

is that where the "calendar girl" story/film takes place? must be a great landscape there.

I like it. A closer shot with only that interesting out-of focus rectangular pattern in the background would be an alternative.

Hi Steve,

the near-grain-free performance is one of the reasons (if not the most important) which I switched to the DSLR. ;-)

and hey: I tastes a lot of goodies this evening ;-)

Hi Hugo,

the low aperture value was the sacrifice for being hand-held ;-) But my personal feeling is that it works.

take care & thanks for the constructive feedback,

Lieber Gruss, Pia :)

Wonderful capture Thilo, I like the composition and for hand held this came out extremely well indeed. (I wish my ISO 400 was as grain less as this lol).

The toning is super, I would have been extremely satisfied with this and would have sat down to sample a few of the goodies before leaving ;-)

Best wishes,
Steve

Hi Thilo, Cool shot; very effective and well composed. Not much to nit pick in this one; it's quite well balanced and well excecuted. I like what you achieved with the rather high contrast in the background. Eventhough it's out of focus, it forms an essential part of the image. Very creative work.

Cheers,

hugo

Hi Verena,

Dear Arwa,

you're right about the coffee idea. my alternative title was "coffee & cigarettes", but unfortunately, this was a bar, not a coffee house ;-)

thanks a lot for your inspiring words!

as for the sharpening: No, I don't use any unsharp maskening these days. all the sharpness I do comes from a duplicated layer, soft lighted, and then filtered with high pass. works way better and can be reduced using the layer tools.

Great arrangement of the elements in this still life image!! the mixtures of shapes and sizes, lights and shadows, curves and angles is perfect! U might have not had a hand in the arrangement but u sure have an eye for things!
The toffee coffee like tones make me smell coffee even tho its not coffee in the image, maybe im just craving lol
Did u use the unsharpen tool in PS?
