I had a quick look through your portfolio, your range of talents is quite impressive. I particularily like these old "Ghosts" myself and find this pic to be quite compelling. My first reaction was to suggest a B+W conversion, but then I scrolled down and saw that Jim had beaten me to it. I have to agree with him though, I like the colour version better. Perhaps it is the realism of your colours here that impresses me most. You have not "juiced" them as often is the case these days, and I find the subtlety in this image much more effective. Maybe if you had a dreary grey, or stormy sky to work with the B+W conversion would have won me over. We work with the situation at hand however, and you were given a blue sky on this day. Congrats on a fine shot.

My husbands grandfather was a share-cropper in S. Dakota and in Nebraska (he also built bridges...). It's a hard life and you're at the mercy of mother nature.

And thank you again.. :-) These old houses are very easy to find in eastern South Dakota. Yes, it gets your imagination going as to what life was like there long ago. There is always an air of saddness when I look at these. But maybe they moved to town and built a new three story with a pool? Most likley the crops got hailed out or drought ruined their crop and the bank forclosed. Now they have federal crop insurance.

Oh, and I like the color one better. It has the distressed look all ready and it tells a much better story this way.

Pat! Fabulous shot. I love the rich colors, the positioning is perfect with the windmill and the barron trees. Makes you wonder what life was like here at one time...

Excellent shot my friend. The blue sky serenading the creams of the old building reminding it of its glory days.

I remember walking by so many abandonded farms, always wondering who used to live there . . . . this shows nice perspective and composition . . . . color or black and white? well the b&w helps to denote that isolation, the color shows a farm neglected but life going on around it still. really do like it

I find the angle is what makes this shot so perfect. Also you choice of DOF really keeps the focus on the house while the natural colors brighten up the picture to make it more attractive. Keep up the good work.

Choice of perspective is great and the colors are striking . . . the vastness and openness of your state is made clear here too.

Good shot, great angle.
Have to wonder though, what this would look like in black and white??
