Wow! Beautiful composition and the light behind him is wonderful! I too have been going back to the same place and hoping to see an owl. But yesterday I was blessed with four! I shot them from a beanbag on my car window, I was afraid they would fly away if I got out and set up the tripod! I followed them back and forth with my car and they didn't seem to care! I really love photographing these owl, I think a couple of them were immatures. Are you still watching for your owl?

Beautiful capture of the owl, Paul! I like the setting you got the shot in, very natural and lifelike. What a fortunate coincidence and you were ready to take advantage of it. Dave.

Good shot! Use of subtle fill flash preserves the normal tantalising experience of seeing a bird in woodland ie not all details totally revealed.
