About This photo happens to be one of my favorites for a few reasons. One, it is one of the first owl photos that I have ever shot, second, it was one of my first nationally published photographs and third, I was able to work this subject for a few days as it was sitting in a favorite roosting spot easily accessible to me. I happened to be working some ducks from a hide in the backwaters when a man told me of an owl that he saw several days in a row and asked me if I wanted to photograph it. Until I saw the owl, this man never got out of my sight. I could hardly believe that it was a Barred Owl at head height. I used a 500mm lens and a fill flash with a fresel extender attached to the flash, flash set at -1.0. Your comments are appreciated.

Wow! Beautiful composition and the light behind him is wonderful! I too have been going back to the same place and hoping to see an owl. But yesterday I was blessed with four! I shot them from a beanbag on my car window, I was afraid they would fly away if I got out and set up the tripod! I followed them back and forth with my car and they didn't seem to care! I really love photographing these owl, I think a couple of them were immatures. Are you still watching for your owl?

Beautiful capture of the owl, Paul! I like the setting you got the shot in, very natural and lifelike. What a fortunate coincidence and you were ready to take advantage of it.
Dave.

Good shot! Use of subtle fill flash preserves the normal tantalising experience of seeing a bird in woodland ie not all details totally revealed.
