Thanks James.. Nice to meet you, your portfolio is beautiful, and I much enjoyed your bio. BTW, the clouds happen to be smoke (I didn't mention that in the about as I thought it would steal away some of the image's magic. But since you are an avid landscape photographer, I thought you might get a kick out of knowing this. In this area of Northern California they allow for controlled burns and there are little fires burning all over the place. It's just wierd if you ask me. Antonia

I lightened the shadows a tad with the shadow/ higlights tool in PS, not much, hard to see but on my monitor I can detect it clearly in the horse`s tones. Probably a monitor issue. I tried not to overdo my tonal change.

...and the fog is actually smoke from local fires...no kidding! (This must be what they call "using smoke and mirrors.") Antonia

Carsten, thanks for working on this one. I'm delighted. I'm wondering whether there is something lacking in my monitor, as to be honest, the change isn't showing up...they look identical! If you'd like to e:mail me your version, I can look at it larger. It think the image is just too small in the comment for my eyes to pick up exactly what you've done. Also, re the horse...I will tell you a dirty little secret ...shhhhhhh (He's cloned in from another spot so he would be right where I wanted him. He was actually standing in a slightly different location in the pasture...lol).

Very beautiful scenery, I love esp the raising fog. The horse "makes the shot", of course. Neil is probably right with his remark on the foreground tones being on the dark side. I played with PS shadow/highlight, what do you think ?

Thanks, Rona. It is in Northern California somewhere near Lake Almanor and Taylorsville. We were just driving around checking out the scenery for hours...a favorite thing to do.

This is very nice. At peace I must say.
I am wondering where this is? Good stuff.

You've paid me a visit, I see. :) Thanks for noticing this one. It was taken with my friend Mary at my side...the one who is getting your horses shot! This is her territory.

Neil, thanks for such a thoughtful take on my landscape...not only would I have to nail down the horse, but I might have to haul out my mist machines too. Or start some fires down the road again, which is where the white clouds actually originated. :) Toni

Hi Toni, well this almost looks like winter to me :) A nice landscape with beautiful layering right through to the hills covered with snow. I find the lighting a little flat but there is nothing you could do about that. Would be nice to try an early morning or late evening long exposure here, but then you would have to drug and nail the horse down. Only joking :)
Thanks for your recent comment, i loved your description :)
Best wishes Neil

Beautiful! I love the horse and the mist in the background, they are so graceful. Do you live here, and if so can I move in?

A lovely scene with good composition on the horse. The mist in the distance adds a drama as you have the feeling of night approaching. I like it.
