I was probably too close. If you look at the other shot of mine "Alone and wet" you'll see it's the same tree. It was only about a foot across. I already sharpened it as much as I dared in PS without causing it to go grainy. Thank you for your input, I appreciate it Rose

The subject is really interesting, but I do think it might have been a bit better if the focus had been sharper on the area around the hole rather than at the edges of the trunk.
Did you use manual focussing - I'm just surprised that it didn't focus at the distance of the hole (or was it too close for it to focus a that point?
