I don't know if I want to be scared and run away...or put my arms around him and hug him. The expression and pose is priceless and uncanny...the detail...incredible! Great macro work Alan.

Thank you adriane, i too noticed the eyes. I think they are a nice insect. As far as the sexes, i havent a clue. They could be all the same sex, or have many different sexes who knows?

Alan,
Great shot!! Love the in your face perspective and sharpness. You've been getting some really nice macro shots this summer, keep up the good work. PS: I hadn't seen a mantis in over 20 years. I make it a point to find some this summer and was lucky. I found a location along a highway near home that had a good population of them. I just think they're not as many as there use to be in my area.

Fantastic macro Alan, the detail in this shot is truly amazing. She almost has a guilty look in her eyes as she is about to rip the hibiscus into thousands of pieces lol The dof is superb capturing both the plant and mantis is good focus. The pollen on the mantis's claw is a super capture.
Magnificent photo !
Best wishes, Steve
