About I exposed this earlier this month. (told you I had more) This is the time I forgot I had the camera set to 400, started getting a lot of noise in the sky. THEN, I found I had to be so careful in trying to get rid of the noise, that I was losing the lines on the ship.... THEN, the more I tried to add contrast and bring out the whites, more noise. Colors still aren't where I want them but this will have to do!!

Too bad there isn't a project for noisy photographs! LOL

Your sighting and framing of this view overshines any minor detraction from light noise Lori. The lines from the rigging and mast look great against the other tall ship and the city background,

Chris

What a wonderful capture! I love the color of the sails and the patterns of the lines. I have a thing for the tall, wish we had some near.

Hi Mark,
I regret that you misunderstood one of my remarks. Before I would EVER be condescending I would simply 'move on'...I wouldn't bother leaving ANY remark.
It does make me sad to think I have made this impression on you.

Hi Lori, Great shot, with a beautiful lighting. I like the frame in this one. The two thin red lines are very subtle and so is the tone of the border.

Very good composition, and the contrast between old and new make it very intriguing. Only the OLD part would've made a very nice composition on its own. Superb colours, and a great shot!

Neat image will help you reduce the noise, and converting it to B&W would make it fit for the grainy film for effect project....;o) But seriously, I think you did a good job in obsucuring the noise. Doesn't bother me at all....

Cheers,

Hugo

I have an even better idea - how about going back to film? Any pro(like you)knows (just read PDN - Photo District News - or American or French Photo) that digital's not REALLY there yet. It's just all marketing by the camera manufacturers to sell more camera's to the general (generally unaware) public. Just some advice from a travel photography pro that does his research. PS Saw your comment on Biliana's shot. She's a very dear friend of mine and my girlfriends (who stayed at her place last year). She's (Biliana) performed miracles with her little G3 camera since the average Serbian makes less than $200 a MONTH. Maybe I took your comment slightly wrong but it seemed to have a faint air of condescendsion about it (a little happy face at the end doesn't balance things out). We're already hated around the world BIG TIME because of a certain cowboy and his "war"(I can't even visit Arabic countries anymore that I used to go to all the time thanks to his, and his gangs, blunders and TOTAL misunderstanding of the culture and region - but is that really any kind of surprise) so lets not add-how's that sound?....

Gee, Lori, couldn't you cram a little more symbolism into this one? The overlapping forms and colors are great.

Noise? Well, if you can see a beautiful sails with the "red white and blue" clearly, the noise is cleared ;-). Still this is a wonderful picture. About noisy photograph, well, IMHO, I prefer noisy photograph than noisy photographer LOL (no offense, just talking about the papparazzi out there....)

Saeed Al Shamsi Saeed Al Shamsi   {K:47735} 8/13/2004
Excellent use of vertical and diagonal shapes, the noise created by high ISO, there is a program and you must be knowing it called Corel Draw, it comes under Bitmaps-Noise then either use Moire ore Noise reduction, Saeed

Chris Spracklen   {K:32552} 8/13/2004
Excellent colour and lines and I love the big sails!!
The noise really isn't too bad on this lo-res version.
Kind regards, Chris

Hi Jim,

Yes, I have Neat Image, seems like the smart blur works about the same doesn't it? To tell you the truth, I forgot about it. I do still have the original though, I'll give it another try and then compare the two.

The pix of me is posted way back when I joined, all of 6 months abo, it's just the color version of the one that's on the bio page. Maybe a bit more detail...I HATE pictures of myself, always have. I much prefer the other side of the lense!
Lori :)

Have you tried neatimage ?
it has gotten me out of trouble a time or two.
won't take you back to the scene and allow you to change the ISO , but it cleans up pretty good.
nice shot by the way , and you aren't alone
jimc
PS get brave like DB and post a picture of yourself !!
