Bea, love the tones. They capture the atmosphere of this place perfectly. And you call yourself an amature, I beg to differ with you, this is the work of a seasoned professional. Your friend, Jim Gamble

thank you again Svend ! ah..you're a writer ! that explains the importance of titles. but that's the thing too though..you didn't know if he is the customer or bartender. It kind of left you hanging wanting to know more about this man. left you to your imagination. which is more of what I would like.. make it your own story as well ! thank you..!! btw..he is the bartender and he had lots of stories to tell ! he was taking a break..

Hello Bea, regarding the giving of titles -- you certainly haven't "failed" with this photograph (as if!) and what you wrote gave me much to think about. You might be right, maybe a title should only be a reference, a tag of some sort for indexing purposes. A title so easily becomes pompous. And yet... I don't know. I'm intrigued by titles but I guess that's the writer in me. Rgds, Svend

Hi Svend ! thank you for your comments ! About the title....I hear what you are saying. But I have to be honest..titles are a nuisance to me. I think the image should stand on it's own and let the viewer formulate their own feel and opinion of the image. Titles can sway the opinion of the viewer. Unless I ..the so called "artist" wants to convey a certain mood or statement..then I would be more specific with titles. If images are strong enough..they shouldn't need a title at all. But..I title them in need of reference rather than all being untitled. So basically..I hate titling images. I try to title the images as basic as possible. you have an excellent point and again..I understand. But..that's not me... if the viewer can't relate to my images without a title..then I feel like I failed. Thank you for this thought provoking response !

Very good photograph with depth, detail and human presence in the form of the old bartender (or customer?). If I have a complaint, it's with the title. Generally speaking, people have a great opportunity when it comes time to give a title to a photograph, an opportunity that's almost always wasted. Here, you have taken a photo of the reflection off a mirror behind a bar, and you have given it the title "Reflection of a Bar". Well, it's literal and harmless. But why not give it some thought and have some fun with your title? If the old man is the bartender, why not come up with a title about him? "Forty Years Listening to Sob Stories". Or about the bar? "No Fancy Drinks Served Here". I don't know, anything. Why bother using words to give a title to a photograph if you don't use your imagination and have fun with it? Rgds, Svend

Bea, I have to say it is beautiful .. but i noticed that Owen O'Meara mentioned you image "Reflecting" as being one of the best on this site - first: I agree with him fully, I have always loved that image - second: those words coming from such a fine photographer as Owen is just wonderful because one of his images "For Picaso" is among the finests nudes i have seen in a decade .. Bea, you're really doing well .. keep it up the passion !!!

Bea, you have succeeded in capturing the mood and astmosphere of the bar.The three components of the composition work very well. The reflection in the mirror allows the eye a place to rest after exploring the rest of the frame. Regards John

This image is wonderful. The composition is superb and looks mor like the work of a serious professional than a beginning amature. You use your Rollie very well.
i still thinl that your image "Reflecting" is one of the best images on the site. Keep up the good work, you are truly heading in the right direction.
-Owen
