About In the year 2000, a friend of mine wrote a play about Antinoos, lover of the Emperor Hadrian, and bought a statue of him, which I photographed one night at his apartment. This friend took his own life last fall, and I was reminded of him when I came across this photo while organizing my archives...

A photograph of a sculpture framed like a painting. It reminds me of certain decorating fads of the 1930's and 1940's. I'm afraid I get no specific emotion or significance from it, just the sophisticated eye-candy of the feeling that the frames are simultaneously expanding out and contracting in.
