About Following my transportation series, this picture shows the NYC subway some time ago.

Lighting condition was really bad here but I like the soft look of the image. Anyway the incoming subway forms a contrast by its' fast movement.

comments are appreciated a lot.

Dear Hugo,

thanks for the lenghty comment, appreciate that a lot (you must be busy!). The image suffers from the somehow bad camera - the Ixus V2 is a very handy camera, but doesn't let you change shutter or aperture manually. So I shot the picture with the automatic settings of the Ixus. I think it's not too bad but with a good camera, you may strengthen motion blur and other things ;-)

Take care, Thilo

Hi Thilo, It's kind of hard to catch up with all photos, so I tend to skip a few, but couldn't let this one go...) Very good shot, with alot of tension and dynamism in it. Too bad you reveal the direction of the train, as I'd rather seen it like the train is already leaving, leaving the stranded traveller in for a long night, missing the last train home... His pose could be perceived as reluctancy and I think I would've liked to believe that. Oh, well, apparently he's just in time to catch his ride, and that doesn't change the tension and dynamism, but it changes the atmosphere a bit. Well composed, and exposed. I think a darker, cooler tone would be better fitting to this image, but I do like it the way it is. Excellent shot!

Cheers,

Hugo

Thilo, this is an awesome image! Very powerful and crisp, and the oncoming train adds so much movement to the shot.. Really, really good!

Hey Kevin,

actually we just reached the final subway there to go for the path train to New Jersey this morning (lucky as we were). If not, we (= carlheinz & chrissie) would have to spend the night here as you imagined yourself ;-)

Take care, Thilo

...soemtimes I type too fast -- my comment above should read "blur and tone" not "blue and tone". I was thinking about the tone in your ferry image

Yikes-his stance give the impresion that he is looking after the train he should be on and will spend a cold nite on a station bench amongst the street urchins....good image to stir my imagination -- the blue and the tone as in your ferry shot add interst...classic. K

Hi Randal,

thanks for your comments. In fact, you just expressed my thoughts about that image. As I mentioned this is the second image in a small series I try to install. Perhaps you will find that interesting.

Excellent image. I think you caught just the right amount of motion in the train, and the lone figure has a posture that seems to express your title, like he just missed the last train home. In addition, the toning of the photo lends a classic look to the picture. Great job!
