Howdy Ppdix

Your portfolio is one of the best on this site and you have developed a classic 'ppdix' style, but I definitely think your male shots are weaker. I guess not as inspiring as some of your other work. I'm no expert but I think this shot isnt that flattering for him. I can appreciate the look he is after but his position makes him look tubby & it looks like he has love handles. I would have thought with a tighter crop & in landsape format you could show of the bling a bit better. I'm sure you've got better than this from the shoot.

Anyway your other shots are amazing & the lighting is out of this world. Seems like your studio is going well so good luck & enjoy.

Thanks for sharing

hi christi. i agree 100%. it is totally tacky and thats what he is all about... an all out pimp look with the latin urban shiny style and "bigness"... its all about impressing other guys, not just the girls, who, believe it or not, dig this kind of pompous guys... try to place yourself in the ghetto or a low income neighborhood where these dudes come from and u will understand the need to impress by overdoing it and showing off...
Remember, i only photographedhim, i didnt dress him... i tried to capture what he wanted though and make him look bigger than those other thugs that surround him... he was thrilled with the photos and he felt huge...
for me, that is all that counts...

ciao

The photo is excellent in and of itself re: pose, lighting, background shading and colour, etc. The man obviously is going for that look but it, in my opinion, is tacky. Too heavy on the jewellery-the pinky ring is too big, the earring, whoa, ditch that and if he needs one go for a small diamond, even the watch appears too there. As for the jacket, ugh. Now as I said none of this detracts from the quality of the photo but it probably does account for the low female response. As you have stated yourself, Patrick, you don't comment on photos unless they grab you and this man's personal image does not make my pulse react. The only thing he has going for him is the sunglasses and his facial expression. He is a good looking man and would look hot in a pair of jeans and a white shirt, tails out or a classy subdued suit with a shirt and tie that have a slight shimmer.

You got the look with the bling bling watch and the shades and the adjusting of the tie. My theory is women photog's don't like the pimp look...somebody speak up ?!?!....PhD....

Besides even I, with 15 years of Photoshop could, or would attempt texturizing a jacket like that.. Forget it! :-D

It's a PIMP kinda jacket Q... It has to look tacky and shiny like that! :-P

Really !? The texture on the jacket seemed like photoshop, but I guess I was wrong. Thanks for the info.

18-degree honeycomb diffuser attached to a 1600W strobe on the right and fill soft box from the left.

Straight shot. Photoshop just to crop and save...

If I was a psychologist I could write a PhD thesis on some of these statistics. I can think of several other reasons why certain types of photos don't get high viewings.....I've only done male portraits once and have to admit, if I didn't have the good models I would've been lost. Good lighting. Single spot from the top right ? Lots of photoshop on this one to get the final look ? -QZ

Hey QZ...

Well... strong, maybe... But judging for the number of views and comments, there seems to be just 0.1% women on UseFilm...

I still like the shot. Not a lot of people can pull off this kinda image anyway, so I am happy with it and James loves it!

Cheers, baby
