So many suggestions - this is perhaps one of the most informative series of comments I've ever read on just one picture! I have nothing new to add, other than that I also like the reflections - and in fact I believe this adds a great deal to the picture. The eye is designed to see the world via reflections, and through this eye I see the reflections of the window and the clouds. Personally, I would be trying to maximise these reflections as an integral part of design. The PS fixes don't work well, causing distracting blur on an otherwise sharp image, or causing a other patterns that look unnatural. This is really good work, and an excellent portfolio of some masterful macro work that is an inspiration to all of us.

Dear Gerhad, first congrats for your wonderful portfolio too. its plenty of art... i have a 10D and suffer with problem too. i found a wonderful soft to noise reduction: neat image (www.neatimage.com). there is a demo unlimited freeware version that works very well. its powerful with a lot of parameters fits...

Dear Sergio, thank you very much for your nice comment. With my Canon D60 I have generally with ISO 800 a high level on noice and in addition to that I had a very small DOF (F/1.4). Based on this parameters I got a very blue sharp eye and the rest was unsharp and noisy. I changed a little bit the colors by using PS (and I work with layers). Was this you question?

Awsome shot! I would try to do one of two things:
1. Use a ringflash and get close enough for the reflection (if any) to happen within the pupil, so you can PS it away very easily. That would also take care of the reflection of the eyelids
2. Make the surrounding lighting very bright (bright sunshine), make a tent with a white cloth over your son's head leaving only an opening on top for your lens. No reflection, no eyelids ... the question is whether your son will cooperate :-) - I have seen other macro shots done like this ...

Dear Don, thank you very much for your help. I think a dark room combined the an illumination from the side (circular reflector) will solve the issue with the reflextions. I'll try and show the results ;-)

Upon reading the comment I think that the solution has been covered pretty well. I have a small circular reflector that would work well in this situation. The reflection seems to be coming from a window or door. Great picture. don.

Hi Gerry. I have the same problem when I photograph products that catch reflections, like stainless steel or glass... The way to do it is by being in a completely dark room, so your reflection will not show on the picture. I usually use a corded remote control and you have to be far away at maximum zoom... Alsoo to avoid distortion. Now, the light source has to be from the sides, not the front, or else it will show. What Bartock was referring to (macro flash, very expensive too), is a good idea, but it will definitely reflect as a white ring on your son's eye. It is a great light for all macro photos, like your insects, but not for reflective objects.
Try to hang a white sheet a few feet away from the window. It will act as a diffuser and minimize the reflection. Also, your son should be closer to the light and you, who I can see reflected on his pupil, should be further away, hiding in the shadows... If possible, of course................ whew... I am glad I am a fast typer...
Once again I agree with every one. THe reflection is actually cool and I wouldn't take it off.

Outstanding close image, amazing details clarity and sharpness, If you have a polarizing filter that well take the whole bothering and well adjust the surface, very easy and you must be knowing it just rotating the filter on its mount to get the desired effect ( reducing glare ,reflection), great shot, Saeed

there is a special circular light that iridologists use to photograph the iris. Such as this one by nikon you can see here at this web site. http://www.maxwell.com.au/photo/nikon/speedlights/sl-1.html
But personally i like the reflection as it gives the eye a wet look. Good luck on your search

Very nice Gerhard, i detect a different direction in this for you? I love the way it is soft around the edges. Superb DOF. The only way i know of to reduce the reflections would be a POL filter or of course a different position, but i like the reflection in the eye. Beautiful Photo - +7

thank you very much for your great ideas! For small changes or corrections I use PS very often but for such "big" issues I would like to correct this effect at the source. If I reduce the light source ... I won't have enough light for my objectiv .. perhaps with a diffuser (from the side and a dark ceiling ... I will try it again ...when my son allow it again.

you can use the clone tool in Photoshop to fix that sort of thing up. or darken the light areas with levels and then add contrast to bring up the under lying colors. here is an example i used both of those tools here
