The sand is pretty red in parts of the desert in the UAE. Of course the sunlight helps to show the colours. We used to drive "off road" in our SUVs at the weekend. This necessitated letting a lot of the air out of the tires and avoiding the soft sand - not a trip to be made with one vehicle! We always carried a tow rope which proved useful on more than one occasion.

Gabrielle, Beautiful photo, I like it. It prompts two questions. Is the coloUr of the sand accurate or does the sun light reflections modify the appearance, and since I see no sign of a road, how did you get the photo. Del.
