Hi Arwa, this is a Dahlia and they are fairly big flowers. Once the flower "ripens", the gold centre bursts open. Bees LOVE these flowers so if you do have them at your wedding, bear that in mind. Dahlias come in a wide range of colours and hybrids. Do a www search and see the range.

The title fits the beauty. Velvet indeed. I always have trouble with the way my Sony processes the reds. I have to do alot of work to make them turn out right. Whether you did or not on this it turned out perfect. T

I took this shot months ago, when the Dahlias were still flowering. At that time all I concentrated on was to get a clear shot
The owner of this Dahlia garden has given me permission to come and go, so I will definitely be visiting the flowers again next season, and then I can fool around some more :-)
I've now come to the conclusion that I do not fare well with "studio" shots of my florals I suppose I am better at shooting "el natural" :-))

It's not pink, therefor I don't like it....
...naah, it's a great shot, best of today's floral bunch (by far!)
Have you tried this flower with the yellow off-centre as well? Could also bring some interesting results I think.

I have great difficulty shooting anything red, yellow or white. I know that it will be much easier if I use the manual settings, but because of my eyesight, I only use auto focus. Play around by moving your camera (rocking your own body) and by shifting the shadows - that normally helps me.

Another nice shot of our "favorite" flower. Nicely done and I like the way the red/yellow came out.My camera gives me trouble at times with these two colors. Perhaps some RGB adjustments have to be done (in camera). Do you have such settings in your Z1?
After a two week absence from shooting I'm now starting to get back out there!
