Oh Gosh...it wasn't marked on the camera's body.
I found it in the documents that I have to register in order to activate the warranty.
It says : N? 4012892 - ID 347427
But who knows weather the cameras sold in Italy come from the same factory? Here it says Made in Thailand. Yours, too?? Ohhhh My!!! You know,I got one hair on the CCD of the D 100 and in order to remove it I have to go to another town and have it serviced? You can lift the mirror using a cord that you have to purchase separately ( 100 Euros !!!!! ) but they told me never to touch it myself.
And I do my best to change lenses the least possible and with all the care in this world.
I bought a FANTASTIC lens. A 24/120 mm VR ( vibrations'reduction ) which allows me to shoot at 1/10 handheld!!!
Thanks a million,pls reply! A.

Hi Antonella, turn camera upside-down as if you were going to look at the tripod mount and the battery compartment! now now you will see 'Nikon digital camera D70' directly 'above Nikon' is the serial number and it is very very tiny etched into the camera!!! let me know if you found it and what it is!!! I will stay up till I hear from you ~ MADE A MISTAKE MY OLD SERIAL # 303XXXXX NEW ONE 3059090

Hi Antonella, if you were to set, lets say three business cards on a table(with good lighting)upright with perhaps a quarter of an inch space between them! now the one on the left place about 2 cm behind the middle one the one on the right approximately 4 cm behind the middle one! now the middle one will be upfront and the other two staggered! from approximately four feet take pictures focusing on the center card.. if the focus on either of the other two cards right or left is better than the center card the camera is back focusing! in other words it is actually focusing behind the point it is supposed to! so if you took a picture of someones face and focused on their eye, their eye would be soft and their ear would be sharply in focus... I hope this helps cause I have done exhaustive research in the last two weeks because of the problem I had with my first one...let me know how yours is please,,,,jon

Lovely image,John!!!! Cheers! 7
p.s. the sky is a bit washed out, true, but that depends both on the weather and like Hugo said from the slight overexposure on the highlights I have also on the D 100. It's easy to burn out the sky especially when it's very contrasty. Watch out for the fluffy bright clouds...they are tricky!
Good suggestion to underexpose - 0,5 and since this is your first digital reflex you might have noticed that all the pics have to be tweaked in your editing program.
At first I was deceived, too, but then, having tried other cameras besides Nikon,I realized that it's not like shooting with a compact one which delivers photo ready to be published/posted.
I was told that the important matter was the resolution and details, while fine tweaking was left to the photographer's taste.
But the easy over-exposure plagues me,too (((
Kisses, Antonella

Hi Jon. Nice place and wonderful shot. I was sick too last two weeks. Wow! I see you got a new
camera? Congratulation! It's really big different. I need to change my camera too. My Nikon D1 very old, one from the first (2.7 mp max only). It's not enough for now...
All the best for you, my friend.
Lena

Hi Hugo, yes I took the plunge and now am the owner of my 'first real' DSLR! however the last twenty-four hours have been my worst nightmare! I noticed that a lot of the shots i took were very soft, especially some flowers near where they were canoeing... got home and set up a test for back focus, ( which seems to have been plaguing the D70's) sure enough it was back focusing approximately three and a half to 4 cm! i couldnt believe it!! sat up till 4:00 in the morning testing and testing w/ different settings.. to no avail, every test showed severe back focus! got so upset I had to take two Valiums... anyway, took it back to the camera store today and they had just received a shipment with much newer serial numbers than the one that back focussed. i just spent an hour testing this one and it seems to be dead on!!!! thank God I plan on getting a sigma 70-300 super macro II for it next week, cause I really like to be able to reach out with a zoom.... thanks again for all your wonderful and very helpful comments! I may need your help to get up and running with this seemingly complex camera...your friend....jon

Hi Jon, I see you got that D70 with the Nikor 18-70. How do you like it? Isn't it great to get the new gear out for a spin?

In this shot I notice almost the same thing as I encountered with my D100. A rather low colour saturation, and an easily over exposed sky. Tom Rumland suggested me to use a standard underexposure of -0,5EV, depending on the available light. That does help in preventing the overexposure. With the D100, I can use Nikon Capture, in which I adjusted the colour profile and levels, setting it at a higher saturation. That, obviously is a personal thing, and can also be increased in Post processing. Did you shoot this in NEF or JPEG format?

Cheers,

Hugo

PS: Hope you have a lot of fun with it...;o)
