I appreciate your point of view Jonathan. I don't know if irony was in my intention. It was openly my intention to mimic the tones and style of an old painting, pretty worn out for that matter as Hugo has pointed out. I thought it would be in harmony with the the idea that is a landscpe much in the same state as it has been seen by my father's ancestors some two centuries ago. I would actually be at ease with the idea that it is very post-modern to use whatever style is accessible through history to convey an idea or a feeling. What I would find ironic, in that very perspective, is lomography where whence point-and-shoot cameras are now able to make santdardized shots, artitss will fall back on very bad - they are - cameras to sign a new style. Here is a more natural version. Still cropped and curve adjusted.

Well I'm glad you saw that one Mike, 'cause I was thinking about you and your family when I shot that one yesterday.

Holy Smokes,we're probably related! & how appropriate for me. All the Marcottes up there were farmers. This looks like a field of winter wheat. Thanks Christian for a glimpse of my ancestors' home. Also, I agree with Murilo, the first thing I thought of when I saw this was a ship cutting through the waves.

Hi Christian, Jonathan poses an intersting question. It is slightly ironic, but that doesn't mean the photo itself is not viable, or wouldn't qualify as art. (Don't think Jonathan implied that, though) Naturalistic? maybe. I'd qualify it under pointilism, though.
I find the tone very creative. My first impression, after reading your comment, was that it does carry a painted quality, but also a resemblance of a painting desperately in need of a clean up...
The composition is very well balanced and carries a very tranquil and calming atmosphere. I really wonder what the original photo looks like. The tune up makes it very interesting. Other than that there's not much to nit pick about. Very good shot and a good experiment.
Cheers,
Hugo

Does anyone else find it slightly ironic that, if impressionistic painting indeed arose as a response to the increasing use of photography and naturalistic paintings, we now manipulate photographs (either digitally or by traditional methods) to resemble that style of painting, and this is especially true with Polaroid transfers. While this picture here certainly leans more to the naturalistic side, it still brings to mind the occasionally less-than-symbiotic relationship between photography and painting.
