About Yeah, I had a lot of fun shooting these flowers :-) Was quite funny though - turned around to find a bunch of old ladies standing around me, staring. Must have been a sight as I was leaning over the plants, bee-hind in the air

I think you have found your way right here, Linn.
I believe that flowers can express human emotions depending how yoy capture them.
This one is about joy. A splendorous sun warming up our hearts.
Marília
Thank you for your wonderful comment. I am touched.

WOW, Linn, you have been busy and the group of florals look great. I particularly like this one with the rich golden yellow colour and perfect DOF for this shot. The tight macro view is very appealing as well. Great work Linn!!

Cheers - Bill

Hello Robert,
The URL above may be what you are looking for though you would have to have it shipped long distance. Not sure they do that. This is a major accessory dealer that supplies all the top brand cameras for adapters. Give it a try.
The Canon S1-IS is a nice camera on first look but has its quirks, like many of Canon's cameras...I played around with the G5 and it is the worst camera for holding comfortably I ever tried! Probably will send it back. As for the Z1/Z2's they look promising and as I have a Minolta already I know there styles/capabilities.

It is tough picking out a camera these days...money vs functionality vs quality control and sometimes one would have to go thru a bunch of different brands/models just to get what you like. I was fortunate when I got my first digital "G500" that it was a winner from the get go. Just now need a step up from P&S. (sold the Sony 717 a few days ago...not to my liking...not the best macro item)The Sony V1 is OK.

Best regards to you and Linn...

Bill, I found that the Minolta Z1 was the best all round camera in the prosumer SLR segment. It has a 38 to 380 telephoto lens and in super macro it can focus (and autofocus)to 4cm from the lens. It has a magnified area for manual focus. It shoots continuous at 1.5 fps and high speed at 10 fps and has a flash range of 6m.

I am not familiar with the Canon G5, but I saw the new Canon S1 IS today. Reading the specs and reviews, it seems to fall short of the Z1/Z2 in a number of areas; the close-up focus is 10cm, it has pronounced purple fringing, shot to shot speed is slower, start up time is slower, flash range of 3.8m, the LCD does not adjust for ambient light, but swivels and it does have an image stabilised lens and remote control as an option.

Actually all we need now is an achromatic diopter lens for the Minolta for big magnifications. The single element close-up lenses that I have, tend to give chromatic abberations.

Hope this helps in your trial runs. Robert

Right! :-) One thing about shooting at nurseries is that I always return home filthy. I normally get there just when they have done watering and the walkways are muddy and wet. That doesn't stop me from sitting on my jack and shooting though :-) People must think I am totally nuts :-)

Hi John
Thanks for spending time on my images. I just know that you are not going to like today's images I was actually thinking of you when I shot them and had a little sly laugh :-))))

When am I going to see a new image from you? You can't be saving the camera for the Namaqualand!!

The composition on this is just wonderful and the color so lush and rich! The only little nit I have is that it may have benefited by just a bit of fill flash or gold reflector to brighten up the center black/purple just a bit... actually as I go and look again I like it just the way it is... awww what the heck do I know... It's great! I like it, I like it!!

Linn, I have 3 cameras and a Canon G5 on the way. The Minolta G500 is a P&S type camera but as you can see from my porfolio it takes superb
pics. I too am looking for a good macro camera and from what I hear it is the Olympus and Nikon cameras that truly excell in that dept unless you want to go SLR. Don't get me wrong the Sonys,Minoltas and Canon will do the trick but as you mentioned the focus is my problem as well (I am over 50,so I quslify in that area with poor eyesight))I was tempted to get the digital Rebel but is heavy to carry for any length of time. Perhaps a Sony 828 (lighter by the way)or a Nikon 8700 will fill the bill for better macros if the Canon G5 don't cut it. (have 30 days to check it out.)

By the way...the Canon does have the central area magnified for focusing if I am not mistaken.
Though I worry about the purple fringing. The Z2/Z1 will be a nice camera as well though I probably could do a bit better then just sticking to mid-level prosumer cameras all the time. The more I shoot, the more I need/want better quality upper level digicams for quality images. I like sharp detailed pics for my type shooting. I have my doubts about the G5 but will give it a whirl for the trial period. (Dell.com)

Best regards...

Thank you John. When I downloaded the images and Robert (hubby) had a look, he said "Why did you shoot it that way?". I told him I did it that way because I wanted the crown in the bottom left corner. His reply was "Well, I would have shot it face on and cropped it that way"

You see ... he is a facts and figures kind of guy :-)) Good thing though 'cause otherwise UseFilm would have had macro florals from the Curries all the time!

Regards
Linn

Thanks Bill :-)

Hardly any PS. I removed a hair from the crown; I tested contrast; cropped; about 15% unsharp; and that's it. This flower photographs extremely beautiful. Z1 was set on macro and portrait settings with normal colour.

I like my Z1 but my heart is yearning for a better macro. Blame it on my poor eyesight, but I love doing macros and getting inside a flower. Robert (hubby) has been trying to get me better lenses but it seems they are not adaptable to the Z1. He is now making enquiries in the USA.

People comment about the plasticky feel of the Z1. I wouldn't know any better - this is my first decent digcam and I am a very happy girl :-)

I have taken over 12 000 shots since 30 December 2003 - shows you how well the Z1 handles abuse!

Another important thing to remember is that I only use the auto focus facility. I cannot see whether my images are in focus when I use manual settings - so now you must know how good the Z1 really can be if in the hands of a pro with good eyesight!

Test it out - you might just like having a smaller toy to play with :-))

Don't sweat it....they had a nice view! Anyway I like this and am thinking of getting a Z1/Z2 as I see nothing but good shots from this camera. I love the way you composed this shot and the colors are quite nice and details sharp. Did you do any P.Processing? Just curious as I may just get the Z2 for the zoom and its color acuracy. Good job here! ......Bill Webster
